Why? Cardboard is an almost universally good thing. If you like to listen to your music loudly, I would shy away from cardboard pant hanger models. Don't ask me why.

I use these (the all metal ones, as the cardboard tubes are often old enough to be registered antiques and therefore highly collectible!) as very durable fuses. So far not a problem and I can also roast a hot dog or toast a marshmallow whilst listening to music.
Those are the ones I purchased. Not a bad cableGot these coming for my Rekkr. 6' pair is $30'ish...

Lake Jackson, a smallish town an hour south of Houston, boats This Way and That Way.I see your Rocky & Bullwinkle and raise you the intersection of Pegasus & Unicorn here in Bakersfield. Everyone's dreaming (mostly of leaving)…
I do. I always thought that was funny.Random late night thought. Does anybody else remember when C.D.s were relatively new and they would reissue old albums, but would include a message somewhere on the packaging that said something like, "Digital audio can reveal flaws in the original analog source materials"?
I always thought that was funny. Like was everybody in the control room listening back thinking, "O.K. this kind of sucks, but when it's transferred to vinyl and cassette, it won't really matter"?
@bcowen is on record stating the blue ones are OK if you can't find cardboard, but the other colors sound like a$$.Will these do...?
No, too much dielectric. Will these do...?
These will probably ordered shortly. Thanks to all who replied, especially those offering wire. Insurance will make good on it. I have literally bought THREE MB Asgard in the last 9 months:. First one burned up in the fire, 2nd as a replacement, 3rd for Dad's b-day (during Schitt sale) as he got me into this crazy hifi game.Got these coming for my Rekkr. 6' pair is $30'ish...

Interestingly, 9 times out of 10 I liked the sound of those reissues better than the contemporary CDs of the time. I think that's partly why I found it so funny. And we're talking about 16 year old meThere is validity to that message, particularly as we go further back in time. Tape hiss is the first "flaw" that comes to my mind which may not have been audible on other formats. Mixing and mastering decisions made based on gear which was not up to par with current standards, especially loudspeakers used as control room monitors. Find some photos of the rooms used to record and mix some of the great jazz of the late 50's and early 60's. Other flaws could include tape damage to master tapes that were not stored well prior to digitizing. And so forth.
Now, we can discuss whether early CD players could offer the level of fidelity that we have come to love from the MegaComboBurrito Filter, but the point remains that CYA can be a good business strategy.
Personally, I find great joy in some of the contemporary re-transfers + remasters of old jazz classics. They don't sound like new recordings, but they can offer nice sonic gains. IMHO.
You set the standard. Much respect to you.It feels good to help others.
For everyone, but especially ORT for his love of fine singing and old songs. The songs range from over 50 to a couple of hundred years old. None of them are in English (for those for whom that matters): the languages in order are Griko, Spanish, Sicilian, Sicilian, Neapolitan, Portuguese, Italian, and French. I'll post four today and the rest tomorrow, not to overload the board. Oh, and two are from films.
