Holy smokes I’ve had a fantastic evening listening to LCD-3 with Gumby A1 w/ Unison and Ragnarok 2. At times I felt transcendent, just totally lost in musical bliss. It’s been amazing and truly refreshing.

I’ve been a “tubes guy” for years, but I think Rag 2 outperforms MJ2 (I’ve had two over the years) for what I’m personally looking for in a sound profile, musicality, and technical performance.

But I keep thinking ahead to what MJ3 might end up sounding like, how much it will cost here in the U.K., and whether I’ll be justified if I move on Rag 2 and get MJ3 😂
I've been so much enjoying my Jot 2 that I was wondering if I should try Raggy, but I don't need the speaker function ... and I figured it was only a matter of time until Thor's Hammer returned to the Schiit line up and Jason told us that a Mjolnir 3 tube amp wasn't in the cards ... balanced tube topography requiring 2x the tubes at a time when Schiit is leaving the tube business .. sort of ... and I can't excuse monoblocks the size of MLB bases this year but a Mjolnir 3 next year maybe cure my solid state itch.

I'm frankly in Shock that Mjolnir 2 isn't selling for more in the used categories. It's a very good amplifier, I can't imagine there is better for less than $2k?

WIth 8 watts? As tube hybrids go, this is a very excellent deal in audio right now. Oversaturated new market, the used stuff is getting overlooked.

Are you are saying that a tube pre-amplifier adds more colorization than a tube power amplifier? I would tend to doubt that.
I meant that of the two stages in the usual amplifier, pre and power, my understanding is that the preamp stage is the one providing more of the colorisation. So in an all-tube amplifier (like the Valhalla) you would hear the most difference by rolling the preamp tubes as opposed to the power tubes.

Obviously, in the Lyr+ the tube pre-amp stage would add more colorization than if the tube was pulled and operated in solid state mode for the pre-amp (the power amp stage is always solid state in the Lyr+). I would definitely think that the Lyr+ (with tube) would have less colorization than a full integrated 100% tube amp (tubes in both pre-amp and power-amp stages).
Absolutely, I didn’t mean to say that the power stage would have no colorisation at all, just that the pre stage would be responsible for more of it.

What is Hip?

Bass cover from Japan
Tokyo Groove Jyoshi are fun. There's also a "dueling basses" version "What Is Hip", creatively called "What Is Hip (twin bass version)". I've got a small collection of their songs culled from YouTube.

Thanks, I checked out a vid w Brian Blade and that guy is a beast! I always seem to enjoy those drummers that keep their kit simple and use it expressively. The Bernard Purdies and Clyde Stubblefield types. And now Brian Blade 🙂
Here is more detailed info about Brian's technique - from my professional drummer pal in Israel ...

I also like Esperanza Spalding!
A fascinating musician and person. I heard she just resigned her professor tenure at Harvard to work on something new.

I used 2.2uF Mundorf EVO Oil caps, bypassed with AudioCap Theta's, in my Saga OG. They made for a nice improvement. Soundstage much wider and deeper. They have me planning for even better caps, but size is an issue. Though, I did see pictures where a owner used ClarityCap MR's, which barely fit.

Mundorfs are excellent. They'll be hard to beat. It's the brand I use the most in my refurb projects, especially speakers.

Duelund capacitors are probably the best I've heard, but they're generally unaffordable unless you just want a couple of 0.47uF units to block DC.
