Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm assuming you meant Western Electric? (sorry... I'm anal) 🤣

There's also the KR's and Emission Labs that are both very good.

In addition to the iron cost, there's the cost of the 300B's themselves. Good ones are expensive, and inexpensive ones aren't good. In fact, a pair of the good ones cost more than the majority of Schiit's current product offerings.

Maybe we're approaching this the wrong way. Hey @Jason Stoddard , how about a 2A3 amp? Less iron, cheaper tubes, less power (but still plenty enough grunt for headphones), and can kinda sorta sound almost like a 300B....
True, pursuit of the perfect 300B tube and amp is not a wallet friendly hobby.
Neither is an interest to own one of the many high performance automobiles available.
That's why I drive a 2013 left over Nissan Murano I bought in 2014 that currently has just $22,000 miles on it.
I think the chassis is going to fail long before the motor and drive-train.

What is that Sony? It suits.
.
Sony BR S3700 bluray player. I am using it as a transport with the coax out put. It sounds just as good as any other CD player I have had hooked up to my Bifrost MB.

Just to clarify, I'm well aware the odds of being struck by lightning are probably higher than those of there being a Schiit made 300B amplifier. I just thought it was interesting that Jason didn't feel such a product would be innovative or unique. Limited in appeal perhaps, yes, (much like the Folkvangr) but to those who are into it the idea of a truly affordable example of this type of amp from a company known for quality in both assembly and engineering work would be a pretty big deal in that crowd.
Big +1.

Lots and lots of headphone amps on the market. Schitt's HP amps shatter the price/performance relationship. Lots of DACs on the market, but Schiit redefined the price/performance ratio. Lots of 300B amps on the market, but Schiit's would......lather, rinse, repeat.

Doc B of Bottlehead has said similar things. It’s very challenging to make a quiet 300B circuit. It also requires custom transformers. Relatively speaking, his kits are reasonably priced compared to the competition.

For all those bemoaning the lack of colorful cars a few pages ago...

Be careful what you wish for!
In Henry Ford's greatest tradition: "Any color you want so long as it's all of them." 🤣
