I would have never thought that an amp putting out 20 watts per channel would be this effortless and dynamic. This is so badass.

This looks so cool! Love to hear one one day. But don't think that will happen lol

By 'hottie' are you referring to a female or the Aegir?Puscifer is playing now. Galileo from the Money Shot album. It just sounds intoxicating. Although I’ve had most of a 32 ounce crowler of a double IPA. The only thing better right now would be getting down to intensely amorous activities with a hottie.![]()

Well, Aegir does run hot, so I wanted to make sure.

Yeah................I get that. But if you listen in a dimly lit room the "stick-outness" approaches an ease of use. A focus to where you are drawn to it. I mean what else besides the plug and on/off switch, do you need to have visual acuteness for? Black it is. At least the knob is not polished gold. That pimp-me-out addition does exist with other amplifiers, gladly not here though. Not a fan of the big, white knob that sticks out on these black models lol. Silver FTW!
Is the basic Burson 3XP too hot for you, as well? Mine hits about 125F. Not so uncommon, I reckon. Hotter than an Asgard 2 or Vali 2, I think, tho.

Actually, it was.
I had one for a while, and one of negatives about it for me was how hot it ran. But the main reasons I ended up letting it go was that it's High Gain mode had a surprisingly high and very audible noise floor, which pretty much made the High Gain mode unusable for the headphones I have and I would sometimes max out the volume on Medium Gain on tracks with very high dynamic range &/or low recording level. But mainly, it's SQ was just a bit too "ultra-resolving" and clinical sounding for my taste. The HeadAmp GS-X Mini that I have now is the best sounding SS amp I've yet heard. I really hits the Goldilocks zone for me, being highly resolving with just the right amount of body. It's an A+ amp in my book.
And it does run pretty warm, but not uncomfortably hot to the touch like the Soloist 3X does.

I'm sure it's been asked and answered, but a quick search didn't produce any good results: any recommendations for RCA split cables to send the output from one DAC to two headphone amps?
Something big, silly, and toasty may or may not be on its way and I'd like to keep my Magni in the setup for when I want to use something perhaps a little less, hm, lush and room-warming. Running a Sys in reverse seems kinda silly. I'd only be using the one amp at a time, so I suppose a switchbox could work, but doesn't seem totally necessary? Or would running the split-cables degrade the signal somehow, even if the not-in-service amp is powered down at the time? Thanks for helping settle a nervosa that should last only 7-10 + 1-5 days, I hope.

So, am I the only one that wonders why it costs so much more than the other headphone amps? Not criticizing, just asking. I have an Yggdrasil and Ragnarok 1. Thinking this sounds like a fun amp to try all my headphones on... could take a while. But where to put it? It's as wide as Yggy and Rag.
“The Imperial March” played in my head as soon as I saw this. They look even more ominous in black:

I will also be curious what people are planning to pair with this. I'm primarily speaker listening, so my headphone setup prior to ordering one (in black!) is Jot 2 and a couple planars (HE6SEV2, Sundara). I suppose the Sundaras at 37 ohms and 94db sensitivity could run with the Multiplier, but it definitely feels like I need to dip my toes into the dynamic realm with this purchase...
IMHO there’s something to be said for having a really good dynamic headphone. It sounds like the Folkvanger puts most high end dynamics within it’s performance envelope thanks to its impedance trick so that would give you a lot of options. I think it’s going to be very interesting to see what headphone people prefer on this amp.

Ooo, color options! So what does the temperature gun say when pointed at its hotspot? 110F?GS-X Mini

Jason,
Fascinating write up. I'm sure your many other fans here also enjoyed the story.
I've worked with 30kW tubes... long story.. but i got a chuckle out of that.
I think I want to make a trip to your store to have a test listen. I would have sent my order on the spot, but my hearing leaves a lot to be desired. For that price point, I need to make sure I can hear a difference. But that's just me.
As an aside, if you ever choose to retire, I would suggest considering writing as a post retirement 'job'.
(Sorry, I've got retirement on my mind a lot these days..)
