Most of you may know this by now but Onkyo as such is no more. The name should live on but it will not be the same company that was founded in 1946. I own one of their 7.2 surround sound receivers. Years ago I owned a Denki Onkyo reel to reel as well, early seventies vintage.

I sold Onkyo for years and they made some of the best receivers, but their higher power receivers were not reliable and I was a victim of bad capacitors on the HDMI card in my TXSR606 which the Canadian Distributor at the time (H.Roy Gray) refused to repair... that was the last Onkyo product I ever carried or recommended.
A/V Receivers are still in flux... HDMI switching is still software dependent on some models and many 4K @120 HZ switching units are still have glitches. I think waiting until next year is a better bet if you want a receiver that will still be useful for 3-5 years.

My AV receiver acted up so they fixed it under warranty, got it back and two electrolytics blew up immediately lol, most likely in backwards. Third time was the charm though and no issues for the last four years.

I currently have a Bifrost and so far it’s the best I’ve heard, but it’s also the most expensive DAC I’ve heard. Now that Folkvangr is upon the horizon I’m thinking of getting it and maybe also upgrade to a Gumby in the process.
I’ve however been hesitant towards the Gumby because price and would it really be that big of an upgrade. Your thoughts about Gumby vs Bifrost sounds very promising though and makes me lean towards upgrading
I think I have read somewhere that Gumby would have a somewhat “leaner” sound than the Bifrost (and Yggy) with regard to bass slam etc. Having heard all of them, would you say there is any truth to this?

Sad, but they haven't been supplying product for a long time. I was waiting for their new 9.someting amp and eventually went with the Denon after missed dates all of last year.
Well, so they claim. I've been waiting for the TX-RZ50 - which, amazingly, is 2021 Product of the Year, even though it's not been available, since the start of 2021.
All tubes are for the most part visible as well as the meters. They should have showed it off in a dark room, I bet it is dazzling in low light conditions
