Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Just finished this little abode for my stack. Aside from keeping a little dust out of the Vali2+, its primarily just a display case paying homage to the engineering brilliance packed into these three components!

As an update on this project...I wasn't comfortable with the operating temps (in 72F ambient, case temp for Mimby was 110F, and 120F for Vali 2+), so put it on the shelf until I got my MakerBeam kit.

Took me a couple revs, but was able to wrap this up tonight:

Almost steampunk looks. Great work. Love it.

The Sol… no disrespect ORT, but it was the looks that caught my attention in the first place. Then I read about all the adjustments you can make and i knew I had to get it. By the time I was ready, it was out. My hope is that someone at Schiit turns up a bunch of parts that result in a limited run but realistically, I’ll likely land on a Pro-Ject RPM table
I understand that but to be honest I jut could NOT get past the looks. I am a traditional toad and the Sol is anything butt..,.ugly. But hey, I am nothing to look at so who am I to question Sol's creator?

So I just didn't buy one. :deadhorse:

I have several projects in front of me but these look interesting and it would be a fun quick build. The second video is more in depth. I have an application where I could use these a couple ways outdoors with plenty of room for several panels per side.

Ran across that about a year or so ago. Had me very intrigued then and now that I have a wood worker in the family, it might be a cool project to take on.

Any possibility of turning the whole Scotch cylinder into a speaker or something?
@Paladin79 makes some very nice stuff out of cardboard. At least that's what I've heard.:laughing:

Just because you got a carboard cabinet for an amp does not mean everyone should get one. My son sent me the videos so I figured I would check it out. You should show off the extension cabinet for your DV, I spent a lot of time making cardboard look like tiger maple on that one. :L3000:

Is this a common problem?

All you need is a knife, sandpaper, ruler, and epoxy for the most part, most anyone can do this. I doubt it would take an hour to make two 24 inch square panels, if that but then I have the space set up to go from construction to electronics pretty fast and Finnegan will help. :L3000:

I'm prohibited from using a knife or epoxy under conditions of my probation. :unamused:

None taken, my friend! Looks are entirely subjective and sometimes mine can be "different", LOL! As for Pro-Ject, I own a Sgt. Peppers Anniversary Edition and I really need to play it more and you just reminded me to do so! Thanks for the impetus to do so!

But first I must admit to a bit of heretical behavior. I am listening to my Joni Mitchell station on Pandora via my Echobox (more heresy!) player plugged into its stand for power (software updates time!) and using the optical output to my Sennheiser RS195s! I own two of these cool looking DAPs and gave one to my brother and another to a friend. To my eyes, they look neato!

I awoke early today and listened to some vinyl on my Teac (mdoels TN300?) table and looked around the room and said unto myself, "Toad! You need to do some updates to your two (!) Echobox DAPs and whilst you are at it, play some Joni Mitchell (she was SOOOoooOOOooo gorgeous in her youth!) via those Sennheiser RF195s you bought a few years ago. So I put the new replacement earpads on them and BAZINGA!

Joni was singing "Free Man In Paris" just for me. "Sigh"...I had/have such a crush on that woman. Carole King (Klein) too. Carly Simon too. I'll stop now. :beerchug:

Not cardboard, but MDF anyway, underneath all the fancy walnut and mahogany veneers and such. Designed by Dan Wiggins of Adire Audio back in the day, just the second pair ever made, the carpentry done by a friend. He called the design DDR, for Dipoles Done Right.

I've been using them for nearly 15 years, not feeling any need to 'upgrade', with Hypex HG power, and nowadays a Mimby/Loki Mini+. Lately, I'm thinking a Vidar might be nice...
