Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm confused about 2 things with the IEMagni: If Schiit is targeting this amp for iems, why does it have a 6.35mm headphone jack instead of a 3.5mm one? I guess it's so the same cabinet can be used for all 3 of the Magni amps, but I think 3.5mm would be preferable to having to use an adaptor. And in the picture of the rear panel of the IEMagni on the product page, the gain switch shown only has 2 positions, not 3 as is advertised. Maybe the picture doesn't show the final version?
IEMagni also has sufficient power to drive full-size cans, so 6.35mm (1/4") is the more logical choice. also the adapters that fit a 3.5mm TRS plug to the larger jack only add 5-10mm to the stack length and make a more stable connection than the reverse adapters.

Schiit sells the TRRS adapter kit for $5-- just add to the order.

USB is digital, and would required an onboard DAC (Fulla or Hel would be better choices in this situation using a USB digital source).

The last 3-4 headphones I purchased all came terminated in 3.5mm with a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adaptor. Most Grado phones, for example, come terminated in 3.5mm. Almost all iems are terminated 3.5mm. The trend for a while has been to 3.5mm for headphones to cater to portable use. I think having 3.5mm out on the IEMagni would be a better choice. But since there is a lot of part sharing between the Magni amps to keep the cost down, I understand the 6.35mm out, but to me it is a compromise I don't care for.

Can't you just use an RCA splitter from one coax? I've done that to have one eitr feed multiple DACs at once and that worked great.
I'm surprised that worked on digital. In any case, the modded OPPO has 4 digital outputs for L/R/C/SL/SR/LFE/BL/BR. Eight different channels.

So the one you're sending to @AudioGal (and hopefully me) is Incubus V2? What is different in V3?
There is no V3 yet, Bill jokes about it from time to time and says things like he wants his with a half inch copper plate on top, no electrolytics and Mundorf caps throughout. Just some Cowen humor. I joke about getting to work on it for him.

Now as far as Bill's dislike for GE tubes, it mostly extends into 6sn7's and the like. A bunch of us recently tried GE 5998A's with some very good results. I may send one of those along to Audiogal and Zachic to try out. In some local tests they were not far behind the Tung Sol 5998 and the Chatham bottom getter 6as7G.

There is still freya. The form factor has some attraction and looks a lot sleeker than Yggy/Ragnarok.
My bet is we'll have to wait for the parts shortage to pass and Jason to have a brilliant idea
True, but I think Freya appeals to the speaker/2 channel crowd - those buying Aegirs and Vidars. Mjolnir was a headphone amp in a full size chassis - I don't think Schiit will ever do that again...

Ok I am confused, the Gungnir I have is full sized but it is a DAC. Are you talking about Mjolnir 2 perhaps? :)

Speaking of which, any tube favorites in the Mjolnir? I have tried some pairs but I always welcome the input of others.

Sure why not lol, it would make Bill happy.
I've always wondered what the fuss is about with 300B's, and being me, the proof of the pudding is always in the tasting, by me.

With a Cable Cooker, of course. The right tool for the right job. But then I've told my teenage son at least a dozen times that a screwdriver is *not* a chisel, crowbar, or paint can opener and that hasn't sunk in either.... :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I thought it was a cocktail :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have had these in for about a year, keep planning to change them up, has not happened. Works well with HiFiMan Sundara and Beyerdynamic T1.

Magni IEMagni has a nice addition, look at the volume knob...it's got a highlighted dot for volume
your trusty HP-41C calculator.
Puuleease, an HP-48SX. Nothing so plebian as a HP41C
