Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Could you please elaborate why Schiit would never design the product like O2/ODAC? What are the main design differences?

From one of Jason's earlier posts

"Combined desktop DAC/amp. We still get asked about this all the time. We actually have tons of DAC/amps. They’re called Magni 2/Modi 2, Asgard 2/Bifrost, etc, etc. This separation of DAC and amp allow you to choose a combination that best fits your needs, to avoid the obsolescence of an embedded DAC inside an amp. If we come up with a solution that sidesteps the obsolescence problem and doesn’t have problems with digital noise in the analog amp section, sure, maybe there’s something there. What do you think?"

Yes, but O2 and ODAC were separate too from the beginning. There is a version that combines both but I think it was introduced after that Jason's post was made.

I think it's clear all throughout the book, on our website, etc. One of the benefits of working with us is you know exactly who we are and what we stand for. If you agree with that, cool. If not, that's cool as well...there are a ton of great products out there.

I understand differences between JDSLabs and Schiit, but I'm curious why a product like ODAC couldn't have been designed at Schiit from the technical standpoint.

Also from the book and from the site, it should be clear that we never discuss other manufacturers' products. Sorry to be unhelpful.

Again, if you're looking for insight in general as to why we do what we do, there are 53 chapters here that go into great detail.

Just a guess on my part, but the O2/ODAC were developed primarily/only with good specs in mind. Schiit designs their products to have great specs, but they also listen too their gear, seeking great sound at every price point. Just my opinion and 2 cents.

That's what makes Schiit great.  You can get Schiity sound whether you have $79 for the Fulla or $5000 for Rag and Yggy.  I have Bifrost, Lyr and Asgard.  Perfect for my budget and headphones.  If I were to win the lottery, I'd upgrade for sure, but that's probably not happening anytime soon.

I completely agree with you. I started with a Magni 2 Uber that I used to amp my DX90. Then got Modi 2 Uber, added Wyrd, then Asgard 2, then Bifrost Uber w/Gen 2 USB. I'm very pleased with my Bifrost/Adgard setup. I'd like a Valhalla 2 one day just to have some tubez in the chain.

It's clearly been stated that we don't discuss other manufacturers' products. If you're looking at turning this into a tech argument, or objective/subjective fight, I'll have to do some thread pruning. Sorry.

Are you sure your not trolling for a tech pissing match?

Not interested in this in this post. I own both "objective" and "subjective" amps including Lyr and enjoy all of them.

No, not looking to discuss subjective vs objective. And I respect your position on discussing other manufacturers' products. Your original statement that I quoted is very open-ended though and implies a lot of things depending on how people understand it unless it's clarified. The other commenter's post answers my question though. Pure measurments-based approach with a listen after the design or creating a number of good-measuring prototypes and chosing the best sounding one (having Schiit "house" sound I should say?) by ear.

I think the coming chapter on measurements (tomorrow) will answer a lot of your questions.
