Small (9mm) pots have much more aggressive tapers than large (27mm pots), despite both being "15A" (the standard audio taper). I like to use Alps RK27 when feasible, or relay attenuation, but RK27s are 10-15x the price of RK09s, and relay attenuation is even more expensive. Both our 9mm and 27mm pots use custom tapers.

So with that price difference we probably won’t see a SYS with an RK27. I would buy one.

Whatever pot these other folks use in their amps, its really wierd IMO that you cant use a very small portion of the pot they choose whatever it is.
A Bottlehead Crack amp with a 100 K pot often u need to add attentuation resistors to get the pot out of the low level area to avoid any low level channel imbalances.

if an amp would, say produce 130dB maxxed out (assuming the HP drivers could handle the power, no driver non-linearity / compression, etc), then for 80dB listening, the potentiometer setting is 50dB attenuation, something like 300:1.

IIRC: the bottlehead crack used a PEC carbon potentiometer, which is not the most precise tracking-wise. for typical listening, a large amount of attenuation from the potentiometer / padding resistors is needed.

the attenuation resistors help with channel balancing and linearization of the taper in the region of typical use (that is the lower ranges).

Alps RK27 uses a special conductive-plastic element, plus multiple thin films deposited on top of this. more precision = higher cost.

TL/DR: you can spend a few bucks and put a two-gang RK27 in place of the padding resistors / 100K potentiometer if you want, should just work fine. Potentiometer value TBD depending on the schematic / value of the padding resistors.

just deboss the metal around the RK27, and put really tall feet on the unit. start a new "industrial design" trend. :)

Schiit pots go to 11
I would have a very, very hard time resisting buying an amp that went to 11. Even if that amp fit no real hole in my inventory or strategic equipment plan. I'd smile every time I used it. To me, it'd be a user interface that delights. YMMV.

The sound system in my car goes to eleven... that is the max audio volume. :)
