Just like you learn never to fry bacon in the nude, nor does one ever solder while the boys are free.
Yep, one shouldn't roast their oysters.

Me in the garage, Lyr era. Bonus large tortoise at feet.
My son did the worst one of all a few years back.
I was soldering, he walks up beside me and plunged his finger into my solder pot full of molten solder!
We were both freaking out and I screamed "why did you do that?"
He said "I was wondering if it was hot."
Holy crap, couldn't you have just asked?
The finger was red and sore for a couple days, but it could have been much worse.
Uh, there's a random tortoise that lives in your garage?

I guess he's in charge of Ragnarok right? Coming slow but steady!
You can thank the leidenfrost effect that he didn't lose his finger... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leidenfrost_effect
(or just look up the mythbusters video where they stick hot dogs into molten aluminum)
We have strange pets. He was probably awake for a while (he hibernates from November until April, normally, but there's usually a hot spell around January in SoCal.) This is more his usual turf (after a nice lunch, it looks like...)
Wouldn't this only be the case if he had been sucking on his thumb before he dipped it in? I mean, he would have to have quite a bit of moisture on his finger to make the vapor layer, I would think.
Loving the pics. Keep 'em coming!
Seconded. Also, Loving the turtle. Awesome stories so far!
