I’m curious — how is the user interface? A used Airport Express is about $20 vs over $200 for the Allo. Assuming the audio is comparable, how does using it compare?
.
Assuming you aren't interested in Roon yet, Volume is certainly competent but a couple of things I don't like: 1) There is a brick wall between locally stored files and streaming service favorites. 2) Streaming favorites can't be sorted in any useful way. 3) And expect to pay extra to access Tidal or Qobuz.

As a roon endpoint the Digione is excellent. Exceptional sound with a $50 iFi power supply.

Roon helps audiophiles have less cash to throw into superfluous hardware purchases.
And why do you care? If you haven't used it, you cannot judge. ROON is one of the best upgrades I have ever done to my music system. YMMV.

All things considered, a lifetime subscription to Roon is a pretty cheap purchase for an audiophile or even a mere music enthusiast like myself.

After futzing with Jriver for a while and not being happy with its stability or UI, and even going back to iTunes for a long time, I tried Roon and haven’t looked back. Compared to most of the hardware people talk about on here, it’s pretty inexpensive.

Guys, I was just making a joke. Roon isn't something I would spend money on, but I recognize it has value for many people.

I tried Roon on the advice of my "secret plumber room" buddies here.
Compared to Auralic Lightning DS it's sound is slightly less in my ears.
As I am very anal about organizing my files, there's no further advantage to be sought.
The interfaces of both are quit identical too.

It depends what you plug usb from.

It is plug and play for a linux pc or a mac.
If you use windows you need to install drivers for the terminator to be recognized.

Well that’s your server remote app for Aurelic. I use antipodes audio DX as a preferred roon partner, sound is fantastic. But not saying anything about aurelic, I'm sure its great, however there are differences between servers or computers and different cores. Ie aurelic software for aurelic versus roon core versus roon core on preferred partners servers.

You preferred the Lightning DS control app to Roon? Cool. I prefer Roon. To each his own!

Man I hate to say it, but all this raspberry pi and roon talk is making me long for a brief foray back into cat chat.
Yeah it's crazy, all this audio talk on an audio forum.

Heh, serious listening for me is still off CDs. I only have a handful of hi-res rips, and most of the music I'm interested in isn't on Tidal, Qobuz, etc.
