Yeah, they started work on Brush Creek seven or eight years ago...it's quite a bit better than it was. I still wouldn't take fish from it, though, lol.
I used to be addicted to 1st person shooters back in the Quake 3, Couterstrike, RTCW, etc... days. Now the only "game" I play is Gran Turismo Sport mainly because it actually helps with racing in real life (for me at least). However now that you can actually make some real $$$ gaming I've been considering getting back into it, I just don't know if I have the reflexes for it anymore...
I see your point, and though my situation is different, I agree.
I have a Lyr 3 without any modules, it’s fed from a Squeezebox with Digital coax to Bifrost. USB-only in the module wouldn’t work for the squeezebox feed, so it wasn’t a consideration for me.
You're lucky and still have a SB touch! -- Research the EDO plugin... enables USB out with full 24/192 (coax/optical is 24/96 max) and works perfect with Schiit USB gen2/5.
(There's an option to "allow 3rd party plugins" in the SB touch UI, thats the trick to find it, also suggest "Display Off" that turns off the LCD screen, instead of just turning off the light--) no hacking at all-- it actually installs a new linux kernel! (also the uninstall is just a click)
This was the coolest digital transport ever, and lives on in open source and the raspberry pi!!!
Gen5 is probably perfect for this, clean up the SB touch noise (on the bifrost).

Of course his could be used with Schiit gear instead. However, the DAC and amp I have there are quite a bit smaller, if way more expensive, than quality-comparable Schiit.

I don't know if I'm still allowed to share music that goes well with Schiit, but I can't resist to recommend a new wonderfully swing-y, romantic, jazz club album I just got digitally from 7digital: JD Allen's "Love Stone" on Savant Records. After I read some suggestive reviews, went looking for it and being impatient I could not face waiting for the CD to ship. Perfect for my Lyr 3 on a Friday night. Take a listen:

Well, your comments on my Kitchen System make more sense to me now. I am in the process of making a setup more like yours for my son to take to his dorm room. I still have a few weeks before the deadline.
