Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Dirty Weekends are only sold a couple times per year (now is one of those times).

I have the Zu Omen Dirty Weekends and I highly recommend them. They image really well and have what I think is a very enjoyable, lively sound that lets you enjoy all kinds of music, not just audiophile demo tracks.

Have you tried them with low wattage amps? I ask this knowing such amps are not real common.

This is off topic as are many other things in this thread but I found it interesting. A $23 bottle of scotch sold at Aldi's was voted one of the best in the world.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/06/13/aldi-whisky/697272002/

They also have a blended $17 bottle of scotch that is purported to have won the gold as well, six won silver medals.

I also just heard from Eric Alexander at Tekton and low wattage amps match up well with the Lores.

Drats!! Unfortunately not available for me. While grocery stores can sell beer and wine, liquor is a no-go -- IN TEXAS OF ALL PLACES!! :unamused:

You must listen to the Austin Lounge Lizards song "A Hundred Miles of Dry", about dry counties in Texas. I guess they still exist.
I also stayed at a resort in Tennessee in a dry county, you had to bring your own wine to the restaurant and you were then charged a corking fee as they opened it and served you.

Here if there is a drug store in the same building they can sell most any beverage. You can get looked at a little funny when filling a prescription of pain pills with a bottle of scotch in your hand but they carry both.

Bizarre. Here in Missouri, we have beer, wine, spirits, etc. in most grocery stores. Just across the line, in Kansas, only 3.2 beer. Could be worse, I guess. In Utah, one must go to a state-owned liquor store (you can tell where they are...they never have ANY windows).

Still, the ALDI stores in Missouri only sell wine, cordials (Irish Cream and the like), and...really, really BAD beer.

Yep. Jack Daniels is distilled in a dry county. All the alcohol lines are exposed and above ground so the revenuers can inspect them and make sure no one is tapping them. Great tour, though.

You would think being German owned the beer would be decent. The ones in Indiana sell tools, food, and a lot of German products.

I will not find out till Monday if the Aldi's north of me has scotch, and then it is a matter of having the right ones. If they do and they are any good I could always send out some samples. I have had some Speyside that is quite good, my employees gave me half a dozen bottles one Christmas.

That reminds me of a time I was in St. Louis for business and we made a run to a 7-11 type convenience store (may have been a 7-11). They were selling hard liquor -- Tequila, Vodka, Rum, etc., behind the counter and next to the cigarettes!! Talk about convenience -- all the vices were together in one section!! :D

I have not seen that before but I have been to that area mainly to hit the riverboat gambling, there would be casinos on land with a moat around them but I guess they qualified as boats back then lol.
Later all, on my way to discuss literature. My book club can drink your book club under the table is our motto I believe.

Same with Shreveport, Louisiana. Riverboat gambling in casinos surrounded by water. :D

We have gambling in Texas -- just go to Galveston, jump on a casino boat, head out to international waters in the gulf, and then let the fun begin!!! (Or go to Oklahoma or Louisiana)

All Zu speakers do very well with low powered amps. All are upper 90s to low 100s in efficiency and tend to be well above 8 ohms (closer to 12 to 14 if I recall correctly). They do have pretty high power handling capability too. One friend has custom built Zus and switches between a 4 wpc single-ended EL84 amp and a 20 wpc Class A amp. Another has Omen Dirty Weekends, but uses a high powered Emotiva amp to drive them.

Great info, thanks. I own right around 18 speakers so I should have something a 10 wpc amp should drive till I get something more efficient.

How does Schiit compare to others at price point?

Welcome @mesaboogie ! If I understand your question, you're asking how the Schiit product line compares to other Hi-Fi products (of similar cost). Schiit Audio takes an interesting stance, and do not publicly compare themselves to other manufacturers. I like that.
I'm messing around with their modular product line (they have a guide that tries to differentiate their different [what I'd call their] product streams). When I was agonizing over what toys I wanted to pick up, the closest competitors I found (here in North America) were the following:
  1. JDS Labs. (they have 2 distinct product lines... The Element and the Objective Line). They answered my questions in <24h... and the devices look beautiful.
  2. Mayflower Electronics (with their Arc & Objective 2 series... DAC and/or amplifiers). Intriguing product line.
I'm a recent fanboy to Schiit (I had good experiences with their customer service; return policy; appreciate US-assembled boxes; their corporate desire to introduce more people to "good sound"; clean aesthetics; and, disruptively-quirky marketing [discovered them via Linus Tech Tips]). I don't regret it.

http://espsurgex.com/product/digital-qc/

I leave dac and amp on always as well. I use these to protect my audio and computer gear. They are primarily found protecting 15k/25k office machines.
The protection tech is different than common MOV protection. These things work, and are 20 amp rated.

A much cheaper alternative to this: http://espsurgex.com/product/standalone/

Edit: One word of caution with these SPs, you must be 50' minimum from the main for these to work properly. But they don't sacrifice themselves usually and last forever unless directly hit, according to AMETEK. Some amazing testimonials out there on how good the protection is.
I have Furman Elite 15i 7-outlet conditioner/protectors for my expensive gear. But I've never had them lightning-tested (Northern California).
