I am as grumpy as ever.

This will make you feel better. Went to meet Jason and the Schiit crew at AXPONA, and ran across this, didn't even know such a thing existed.....but knew you would like the meter.:grinning::)

I'm reasonably sure I saw their headphone amp. I remember thinking it wasn't as large as I Imagined. As for the massive mono blocks, I did not know they made a 1,2000 watt mono amp. I thought for the price of the handles, meter, and face plate alone you could buy two Vidars!! Heck a whole system. I don't get out enough.

Here's the Ballroom of Schiit

Out of curiosity, is it possible to listen to anything but noise cancelling phones and not be hearing everything going on around you in that setting?

Change is something that we all wish to avoid.

Plus, I'm very, very annoyed at to the glitches and hitches of EVERY major website platform transition. Any web development company promising a seamless transition of even a moderately-sized website is to be applauded.

Centric has done hundreds of site transitions, and they're a piece of cake—and we've done stuff on a grander scale. The reality is that things will be improved (but you just don't know it yet), some good ideas will turn out to be brilliantly good (and they'll be denigrated) and the site will rapidly evolve over the next few millenia (for the better.)

So, take a chill pill, don't panic, nor scream, jump up and down, nor tear paper. And all will be the same old same old...

...until the next debacle.

The Bimby just does not seem to get enough love. I recently made the switch from a Chinese 1704 based single ended DAC that has been married a decade (cryptic reference for sure there....) to a Black Bimby.

Very briefly, I liked my previous dac a bunch. The 1704 signature is nice, if a bit slow and loose and fat on the bottom (but mostly in a charming and enjoyable way). The Bimby is fast and accurate. Sure the Gumby is the "perfect for almost everyone" reference sound, and the Yggy is the microscope for the audio-neurotic (yes, I'd love to have one, I too build castles in the sky). However, if you have a single ended amp that you love (as I do), the Bimby is a fine, fine dac at a really excellent price point. What do I love about it? The speed and accuracy. Finally, cymbals and the piano sound like they should. Is it worth more than twice the Mimby, based on the assumption that they sound the same? For me yes, as the larger form factor is preferred for my home rig, and arguably, the upgradeability is a plus.

OK, done. This really isn't an equipment thread. I just wanted to throw out a bit of love for the Bimby, a couple of reasons why it may suit some folks better than the Mimby even at greater cost. I also want to add to the torch and pitchfork crowd that wants regular access to black Schiit. The Bimby as well as all Schiit gear I've seen in black, looks awesome in black.

It's more like show and tell. At least you can try things on. Get a feel for comfort. Guage whether the elastic type parts will stay that way with use, etc. See new products. You can't help but be curious and confirm that the LCD4 is different than the Utopia, but it's not a real test drive. It's a carnival.
