Haha, love the strategy—getting them hooked early! Schiit really does bring a noticeable upgrade, even with entry-level gear. Can't wait to hear your thoughts once the Magni, Piety, and Vali arrive! Looks like you're diving deep into the audio rabbit hole! Finally got some Schiit in my desk. Modi 3...... WOW. What have been doing the last couple decades? I used to have a Behringer 202 and a NI ADJ as my DAC. Even with lower consumer grade amp and speakers the sound it noticably better, Behringer A500 and PSB Alphas. Magni 2, Piety are already on their way and looking for add a Vali to the mix, see how far this rabbit hole goes. Luckily for my kids they get the Schiit that I don't use, get them hooked young. That way they won't have money for drugs or girls.

I’ve been busy - listening! Apologies if I missed it from a quick thread scan. Is there an update on the Urd 2.0 ETA? Any more discussion of features (besides top vs front load)? I’d love a simple unit that Forks album / play info over to my phone (track title, duration, elapsed time, etc). Thanks!

Are there tariffs charged on Schiit product to Canada at the moment?

Never really experienced an MC cart and within 1 minute I was wowed by how pristine the cymbals are. The imaging. The air around instruments. I'm really in for a treat.![]()
This comment is going to cost me.

Other than me replacing a blown capacitor after it was first powered up after 20 years, then no.Ooh, nice. 701's are awesome 'tables.
davidsapplestuff on eBay has the best steuerpimpels. Those are the only ones I use for my Dual restores.
Has your 701 ever been serviced?
It was in storage until my Dad realized he's never going to use it any more, so it's mine now! He'd had it since new in '75. Schiit, that's 50 years now....
Should find someone around here to give the mechanicals a once over.

Nino Rota won the Academy Award for best Original Motion Picture score for the above album but the amazing thing is that - as per Wikipedia - he wrote over 150 film and theater scores over 46 years, including several for Visconti, Fellini, and Zeffirelli, several of which won awards. He also wrote 10 operas, several ballets and dozens of orchestral, choral, and chamber works. And taught at a music conservatory. Given that he died at 67, this is Bach level production.Tonight's album of sin.![]()

Stjarna deserves an MC.Damnit, @Ripper2860 -- just when I think I can't delve any further into the audiophile rabbit hole you have to tell me how much an MC cart matters. Just when I'd reconciled myself the the fact that a MM cart is just fine. Grrrrr. (Seriously, though, enjoy! Happy it's already working so well. Nice little toy to start retirement with!) Guess I'll need to start researching to see if fitting a Sol with an MC cartridge is something that's workable or not.
Superb! Mine still at the same "Order Received" status but maybe not for much longer.![]()

The craziest thing to me was headphones never did it. They didn't have that "soul", the emotional engagementment. I am looking to see if I can get that 3 dimensional sound. Once the magnis show up I will see where I am sitting. I have a pair of Grado 225s on route also.

Urd + Forkbeard remote will be a game changer. Track info probably isn't doable. But duration/elapsed would be cool. I'm hoping for a top-loader and Freya-size chassis.I’ve been busy - listening! Modern headphones can be quite amazing but the better ones can carry a high price tag. I prefer open and circumaural but each to their own.The craziest thing to me was headphones never did it. Oh and welcome.

Mine also just moved to “order received” status as well… may the journey proceed forwards successfully for us all! <insert serious/contemplative emoji thingy here>Damnit, @Ripper2860 -- just when I think I can't delve any further into the audiophile rabbit hole you have to tell me how much an MC cart matters. Elsewise… So, ummm… cartridges…
Just get a great low-output MC and a proper phono pre and be DONE with it.. you know you want to… Heck, it’s cheap entre: Schiit Skoll and a nice Denon (seriously, great sound for not a lot)… can you say gateway drug?
And then… there is MC into tube pre’s…. Flashing back to when I had (regrettably not long enough and too impulsively sold) my SP3A-1/2 and my entre to MC’s…
Sigh. Fortunately, Stjärna is quite excellent in those (and more) regards. Sounds impressively real. I no longer crave (flashbacks here) my old SP3A nor the oh so seductive but unaffordable at the time SP11. It’s that good, and thus far I’m sitting on stock tubes. No hurries or worries there whatsoever.
For me anyways, after Grado’s oh so long ago… I’ve been low output MC’s ever since… through stepups, tubes, sand (ha!), and back to tubes… and for transparency, I’ve not even tried a single MM in 35 years now; they may have improved in ways meaningful to me and the music I most listen to. Honestly don’t know.
Edit:
@Griffonier ”Peaty Scotch”… you shall fit in fine here, sir!
