Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Oh man. Music revelation of the day (for me) Sibylle Baier recorded these tapes in her youth and then put them away for decades until her son & J Mascis rediscovered them. Like Ladies of the Canyon for a rainy day, so beautiful. HQPlayer -> NAA on ropieee -> Gungnir MB OG -> Mjolnir 2 -> Senn HD6xx -> my ears on the couch with pouring rain outside and a golden retriever

Achingly lovely.

I'm still looping Sturgill Simpson's The Dead Don't Die. Has it been about a week? Does that make me a bad person?

In other news my right channel went out again. I was able to get it back by wiggling and reseating things. My current theory is something loose inside the preamp.
It's always fun trying to trace the source of problem when you lose a channel. I recently started having my right channel drop out intermittently, and traced the cause to my fiancee's cat, who likes to lay on top of my Aegir. She had managed to get the Micca speaker cables bananas loose, so I upgraded to blue jeans cables with locking connectors and that fixed the problem.

This is exactly what I do and it's really not a pain. 15-20 seconds and done. Like anything done often, it becomes normal and you really don't think about it.

Given the differences between headphones (transducers) and db output for a given volume setting, I can't think of a simpler method.
Did you buy one or use a spl app?

@fidgeraldo

How dare you talk about my ass! Joking aside, you have the D8000. I'm absolutely envious....

For you lazy ass, VU meter on amplifier can be a guide. I use that when listening to D8000. ;)

Cheers!
I use them of course even on headphone amps but they show signal level and may only go to five Db, they are also a bit slow in reacting. Classical music in particular can be hard to track since the dynamic range exceeds that of many other genres. 20-33 db shifts are not uncommon.

There is no easy way to equate 5db to power output since it can vary with headphone impedance and gain.

I thought Syan needs it as a precaution against listening to loud?
I really don't know how accurate they are but I don't look at the volume knob position when ajasting volume, I look at the VU meter.
And as it seems to work well for me.
If he asked how to measure dB for other reasons, then, yes, a VU meter perhaps would not be the best option. :)

Cheers!

I bought a Galaxy Audio CM-140 SPL meter, originally for tuning my home theatre system. I have noticed that a SPL app I tried on my iPhone agrees very closely with the pro SPL meter.
