Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I had a Pono Player until last year. The battery died and I didn't want to fool with it anymore anyway. The SQ was fine but, like @Ableza said, not much different than an iPod/iPhone. The best thing about the Pono is that it would play nearly any file format available at the time and moving files to/from the device was pretty easy.

Edit - Mine had the yellow case which originally had a nice texture but degraded over time and eventually had a sticky feel to it. Not good.
I still have and use one my son gave me, black case though so it is fine. I love the balanced output feature.

I think the icons for input look just like their real world connections so no issues for me with that. My issue is how small and how much the embossing blends in so they are hard to see unless one gets really close and shines a light . I wish they were much bigger. But I'm no youngster.
I’m 35 and even I can say that on the products the icons seem too small on the products. That said, they’ve been doing it so long that idk if I’d like the icons bigger. I would want it bigger on the app though!

They draw very little juice on stand-by, about as much as a 7 watt nite-lite.
It gets hot here in SoCal too and I never flip the mains power switch off.
Stand-by doesn't fix my original problem of getting my family to push 4 extra buttons every time someone wants to watch cartoons or the voice.
My old amp (still used for surrounds) was a Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature and it just turns itself on when it detects a signal and turns itself off if there's been no signal for a set period of time. My Velodyne sub does the same. Wish my Schiit amps would do the same. With all the fancy microprocessor controlled things it's already managing, I would think the presence/absence of an input signal would be trivial in comparison.

Maybe Jason will weigh in (when he has a moment) and address the possibilities of adding a music-sense feature to future amplifiers.

In terms of myself - I have no problem. And deciphering icons via the app is the least of my concerns. But it does seem like an 'option' do display text over the icons would be easy to implement. I'll 'trust the plan' in any case.

That word. 'Multiform" makes me think of tax day. Eek.

We're one of the very few countries in the world that have ridiculously convoluted tax filing process

Let me start by saying I’m happy with my Android gear and have never been interested in iAnything.

I’m excited about Forkbeard and expect to invest a considerable amount in gear. Being somewhat impatient, I’ll want to use the capability before the Android app is released. I also want to skirt Jason’s Law. That means my first iDevice ever.

It won’t ever be a daily carry and will sit on my end table in the living room, so: Refurbished or used. No more than $200 and $150 or less is better. No cellular access. Ability to run the same audio apps I have on my Android phone (I've checked this already).

I ended up on Gazelle.com. SE, XR, 11, 12, XS, X models. Confusion! None had greater than iOS 13. Which can be updated to iOS 16? CONFUSION!!

Duckduckgo found this page about iOS 16 updates directly from Apple: iOS 16 compatibility.

So it looks like I can meet my requirements with a phone or pad.

Any comments or suggestions from those already using iPhones or iPads?

My vote is for a refurbished iPad Mini.

It's the only tablet I go back to regularly. Small enough to pocket, but large enough to be useful for web browsing and the iOS apps.

…but then you wouldn't end up with a button/icon combination that looks at you like a slightly befuddled cartoon character… ;p

So, owners of.OG Yggy case couid upgrade to Yggy + then get the Forkbeard upgrade?
Yes. It'll require changing the chassis to an Yggdrasil+, but OGs can eventually be upgraded to Forkbeard.
