Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

There's an album I've just been really hoping I'd find a vinyl rip of, more than any others and I've never seen it. I don't know how any thing like this could be done short of me sending you a record, its just something I'm always asking people about. The album is "The Turning Wheel" by Spellling.

I assume the record rip you desire is different than what's on Qobuz?

CD Quality FLAC purchase via Qobuz is $13.45. Last I checked one just needs a Qobuz account and not an active subscription to purchase.

(Of course, the Qobuz offering would be without @theeclone's excellent remastering.)

Mr. Kenny Barron in a great new quintet (Immanuel Wilkins, Steve Nelson, Kiyoshi Kitagawa, Johnathan Blake). Some delightfully reinterpreted standards, some Barron compositions. Available on Qobuz and other places; the official store has vinyl, CD, and lossless download.

Yes, I subscribe to Tidal. Just trying to get specifically a vinyl rip of this record. Thanks for the thought tho.

Over on the "Post a photo of your turntable" thread there's a regular who's been gushing about some really affordable but supposedly well made Chinese MC carts. I think he got them off Alibaba 😄
@bcowen Found it if you want the link. I've been tempted myself. I will say that there was something about the hana el that didn't quite do it for me in the long run. Maybe a tad clinical to my ears.

So I know that usb is the best option as a general rule with schiit dacs that have their unison usb implementation, but I am so happy with the sound of my modius e via the coax input. Better than when I was using toslink that’s for sure. I feel odd to not have even tried the modius e unison usb port, but the sound is so good over coax
Good, no great that you’ve found something you prefer. And I agree, coax does sound great!

I may need to expand the streaming services I subscribe to. I like the idea of owning something, even if streaming is a much better option for someone as disorganized as I am.

Be very interested in your thoughts on the Hana. I've been eyeballing one myself, just not sure if I should go that route or send the Koetsu off to be rebuilt.
That's a terrible dilemma. But I can help!

Get the Hana AND send the Koetsu off to be rebuilt. Then have the rebuilt Koetsu sent to me for long short medium term evaluation. If the rebuilt Koetsu fails to meet the exquisite original quality, I can can break the news to you gently over a period of months or years. Save you that sudden aching disappointment which can be awfully disappointing. Also will save me from sending my old toddler-modded Kotesu off to be rebuilt. We both win!

On the 1 in a million chance your our rebuilt Koetsu does indeed produce that rich transcendent musical experience that we thought we'd never experience again, I can inform you gently over a period of months or years. Again, we both win! 🤣

It was challenging getting away from civilization but eventually we found a spot.

All we could see with the naked eye was the green band arching to the north. But my regular iPhone 12 caught this.

This was looking straight up to capture the Big Dipper. You can still see the aurora on the right coming from the north.

Continue to be amazed by the point and shoot capability of the iPhone 14 Pro. Taken this evening nearby to Scarsdale, Vic, Australia. No edits, handheld, straight off the phone.
** Def not super sharp, or pro quality, but still. And there was barely any visible Aurora when these were taken.

Gorgeous images. Good on ya! Can't imagine the shipping cost of having the Northern Lights delivered Down Under. Must have impressed the locals at least.

I have a Hana on my VPI table and it is excellent.
Hana and VPI both get excellent reviews.
I am sure that the combo sounds great. :relaxed:

I have now settled on an Audio Technica AT- ART 20 MC cartridge on my Technics SL 1200G turntable, having tried lots of carts, mainly MM....

The AT cartridge was recommended to me by a Recording/Audio Engineer, who is a huge vinyl fan.

It was an extravagant purchase, but I love it!

You are obviously a kind and generous soul.
