What do you call a budget DAC that’s 4 years old? Well, “discontinued,” “obsolete,” or “in the dumpster” come to mind.

That is, except for Bifrost. Introduced over 4 years ago, Bifrost is still the only fully modular, completely upgradable DAC in its price range. And as of today, it’s a very different DAC—and it's available in two different models.

Bifrost Multibit extends Schiit’s proprietary, time- and frequency-domain closed-form DSP digital filter and medical/military grade multibit DAC architecture down to even more affordable price points. Now, Bifrost Multibit is part of a complete family of multibit DACs that include Bifrost Multibit, Gungnir Multibit, and Yggdrasil. Bifrost Multibit now includes the USB Gen 2 input standard and is available to ship now for $599.

Bifrost uses the all-new AKM AK4490 Veritas D/A converter, a highly acclaimed delta-sigma converter that is found in DACs costing many multiples of Bifrost’s price. Bifrost “4490” now includes the USB Gen 2 input standard and is available to ship now for $399.

And, of course, all previous Bifrosts can be upgraded to Bifrost Multibit or Bifrost "4490", for $250 or $100 respectively. The upgrades are available to ship now.

This is great news!  I'm quite excited to hear how the multibit sounds.

Gahh.  While I would love to go fully balanced with GMB into my incoming Liquid Carbon, that price point is so enticing

This is exactly what I've been waiting for!  Definitely ordering one of these in the coming months, hopefully will sound great with the new Ether C's I'm also planning to order!

That's my plan.  Perfect timing with me being on the 2nd run of Ether C preorders.  I should have it just in time if they start the upgrades soon.

Bifrost Multibit, Gungnir Multibit, and Yggdrasil

That doesn't sound right. You should rename the current Yggdrasil "Yggdrasil Multibit" and make a standard DS Yggdrasil. I've heard the SABRE9018 is the best DAC on the market.
