There’s an affordable Asgard 2 for sale second hand in my area, would this be an upgrade or even a good sideways step from the L50 for a less analytical sound?

Cheers.

I've had both and the Asgard 2 is smoother but higher distortion than the L50 and a higher noise floor. It runs hotter and less current than using a 4 volt DAC like the E50/L50.
A real upgrade to the L50 would be the Topping A70 Pro. It just depends what your looking for with a change to the sound. A DAC with filters and also color settings would be a flexible way to do it like the mid range SMSL stuff.

I've since had a look and its not powerful enough anyway. Really I was only interested because it is a bargain. In reality I use my WA11 far more than the Kingrex/L50 stack these days anyway (slightly weightier, more detailed and engaging sounding than the L50 even with a warm DAC feeding it. Still cant believe my luck with the WA11 and stand/case for $50 ($35USD) :)
