OK since 2 weeks i've got a Stax Lambda Nova Signature and SRM-T1S and I love it.

I have a Pioneer Laserdisc LD-950 as cdplayer and a Pioneer PL-514 turntable that i found in the basement.

Hooked first a cheap ass prodisma dvdplayer on it as cdplayer but copy protected cd's don't play well you hear clicks and stuff so i hooked the ld on it and it plays pretty well.
I guess it is far from high end stuff but it will do for now.

The tt is plugged directly into the stax amp and the volume is very low when i play.
I think i should add a preamp. Any recommedations on phono preamps?
i also want to change the needle / cardridge because i think is still is the first one.
Any suggestions that are a good match for the pioneer under 100$?

sorry for asking things that have been asked zillions times before

thanks

I'm turning green with envy, I want Stax but don't have Stax money.

Here is an NAD preamp/tuner/combo going for a very nice price.

Cartridge?

AT440MLa is what I would buy in that price range. They are about $85 plus shipping.
