Thanks for the detailed first impressions post. I myself want to audition it before even trying to consider it for purchase, as I will be comparing it with the MDR CD 3000s, as compared to the HD 800, I give the CD3Ks a little bit of an edge. But certainly your thoughts about the bass and highs is making it an interesting proposition.
Utopia is not even on the table, especially considering the premium price is based out of market forces, which are aiming at individuals who can drop the dough on anything which is trending, hyped and measured in the yardstick that higher priced goods deliver a higher performance. Luxury market has to exist to serve the intended target market and I'm simply not it, but I respect it.
With more and more R&D being done now, I expect headphone manufacturers are taking notes and coming up with ways to create something which will again change the dynamic of the market. We're seeing too many twists and turns in the higher end market and the cHiFi market in the last few years and expect the gap in terms of SQ and QC will be bridged in the coming years.
Yes, anyone back at home who can get to audition them should. I should have steered clear of the reviews, people talk about certain facets of the Elear and I went in looking to listen for them specifically. This was a mistake on my part though and as a complete package it just delivers a very dynamic and enjoyable overall experience.
I've always though the LCD offers very good value at under USD 1000 which is an odd thing to say since it is still an exorbitant amount of money and I feel the same way about the Elear, but value is relative to other similar offerings.I love it when the smaller Chinese brands come out with some very competitive products. I was listening to my KZ ZS3 a moment ago, a bit too much bass for my liking but at SGD 30 its quite outstanding! Are the Chinese making full sized headphones too?
