At least Rockna support is quick to respond.
Their response to my question (post 1356):
"If the current version on the device is 1.38, it means that one of the two update files (1.38_a35 or 1.38_s25) worked, your device is updated."
Probably those who have WL with a calculated 1.XX upgrade to 1.38 and those with 2.XX to 2.10.If someone did something different let us know.
I also received the 2 emails.
The version I had on WL was 1.33.01.48 .
The 1.38_a35 version wouldn't start so I ran 1.38_s25 as mentioned in the Rockna notes.
But again neither 1.38_a35 nor 2.10 are running.
WL now shows version 1.38.01.48. I will contact with Rockna.

Does the preamp function in the WL reduce/vary the voltage output?
How otherwise?
From Rockna website:
"To avoid data truncation, the volume control inside the Wavelight is fully analogue, even if controlled digitally."

Took a leap of faith and updated Wavelight FW for first time, going from v2.06,0203 to v2.10,0203 by playing the recommended wav update file for 2.xx.
Update went ok. Did a power off/on afterwards to set things straight, and puhhh, there was sound...:sunglasses:

First impressions going from 2.06 to 2.10 is a bit increased fundament in the lowest bass tones, more resolution there (I have full range horn).
NIce! The background is a tad "blacker" and I believe a bit improved imaging? Have to play more songs...
What do you experience on your system?

initial impression was smoother overall sound and thickness in a good way, but it’s hard to tell as I just put in new Ethernet cables and they are settling as well

from what I remember, some DACs a while ago would chop bits as a means of reducing output volume

I wonder why Rockna can not just tell us what particular updates infact really do and how they impact (if at all) anything sound related. I would suspect those updates could have something to do with release of Server but so far on my v1.23.01 WL Server works without any problems so far (have not tested usb input yet).

some of the previous firmware updates had a list of features and fixes but who knows, maybe they will publish a list down the road.

the new release corrects some bugs and slightly improves clock management. This is now reported in the release notes. I hope it's not just an impression but I have experienced slightly deeper and bigger soundstage
