Rockna Wavelight

Another thing that I've noticed with Server: a huge difference in volume levels between all my recordings: so far I only use WLS with files that are either rips from my CDs or original FLACs or DSD/DXD files from HDTracks, NativeDSD etc. One can not just setup single volume level and listen. Guess Roon has some setting to deal with that but I need to test it how it would impact SQ.
It is called replay gain. You can scan your files and store this information in your playlist or in the FLAC metadata area. Data is unaffected only headers are updated. If replay gain is activated in your player, it adjusts playback volume automatically to achieve the same acoustic pressure for all tracks. Great option when playing random tracks.

DSD play at a lower volume. When converting to PCM there is an option to boost volume. 3dB boost is relatively safe, higher settings can create clipping. It is better to adjust master volume instead to achieve a total 6dB boost.

And yes, PCM when converted to DSD sounds more dry, sterile. PCM playback is more dynamic, preserving texture and involving. If your amplifier is using opamps, you may prefer DSD though. My fedback is based on using non-feedback discrete amplifier.

I think Roon does that automatically.
I added a bunch of music to my harddrive and now everything seems lower in volume, probably to accomodate for the quieter Music

The automatic Album art and info Scan from Roon is amazing. I wasnt sure wether Roon is worth it at first, but damn do I like it now

I got 2 emails as well, looks like it’s one upgrade file depending on which firmware your unit is running currently.

I also received the 2 emails.
The version I had on WL was 1.33.01.48 .
The 1.38_a35 version wouldn't start so I ran 1.38_s25 as mentioned in the Rockna notes.
But again neither 1.38_a35 nor 2.10 are running.
WL now shows version 1.38.01.48. I will contact with Rockna.

Rockna updates are scary. My Wavelight bricked one week after I received it new during an update. I had to ship it to get re-programmed. And was without my Wavelight for basically the first month when I bought it.

But your WL works after update to 1.38_s25 and you have sound?

@granosalis 1.48 is the latest control firmware.

I’m on 1.23, 1.48.
Tried 1.38_a35, doesn’t work.
Tried 1.38_s25, it works but firmware goes back to 1.10, 1.48. Repeating this gets the same result.
Tried 2.10 or 1.38_a35, doesn't work.

So now I’m back to 1.23. I suppose I will wait a bit until Rockna figures out the bug. 😅

I have successful updated to 1.38. Am I correct in assuming that if you started with firmware 1.XX you can’t run 2.XX?

Or was this just a multi-step process to get all devices to 2.XX?
