What portable amps around $100 are you guys using? Just been browsing. Fiio E12 possibly? Or is the E11 probably enough? Also looked at the C&C BH2 abd a few others, any recommendations? I got an Amazon Gift card for Christmas.

That depends on the other components in your audio chain.  Your chain would include source, amp, earphones and a cable.  Even though cables make a difference, from my experience, I prefer a good quality generic cable than an exotic (audiophile) cable.  Still beware that a generic cable that is not of good quality, like one having the inner wire bundle (i.e. copper strands) too thin or made of bad quality material(s) will hurt the SQ of your audio setup.

My R-50 sound their best from my DAC's (which is not portable) headphone output.  That is not the case with my AH-C300.  Surprisingly, those sound their best with my only portable amp, which is the PA2V2.  With the AH-C300, the PA2V2 beats two more powerful non portable amplifiers.  That is not the case with other headphones, including the R-50.

That depends on the other components in your audio chain.  Your chain would include source, amp, earphones and a cable.  Here the earphones are known and the cable is not as significant as the other factors unless the inner wire bundle (i.e. copper strands) is too thin or of bad quality material(s).  So, your source or sources will define the best amp for your R-50.  For example, my R-50 sound their best from my DAC's (which is not portable) headphone output.  That is not the case with my AH-C300.  Surprisingly, those sound their best with my only portable amp, which is the PA2V2.  With the AH-C300, the PA2V2 beats two more powerful non portable amplifiers.  That is not the case with other headphones.

Playing from two places, a Rockboxed Classic 6G and an iPhone 4S. I have my Yulong for desk use.

Anyone else using them amped? Any thoughts for me?

My audio setup it not a portable one.  So, I can't help much on this matter.  H2OFidelity can help you with your question.  Read all these posts from this very same thread we are on.  They cover sources, amps and cables.  I did not express myself properly, when I wrote that cables won't make as much difference in SQ as the source, amp and headphones do.  Cables are not far from the other components in their significance in SQ.  I will edit that post as soon as I am finished with this one.  However, from my experience I prefer a good sounding generic cable than an exotic cable.  That is why I said that cables were not that important.  But they are.  If your generic cable is not a good quality one, it will show in the SQ.

Once you have read these posts, it would be good to send a PM to H2OFidelity asking him what he recommends.

I think it's the same... Those pictures looks like 3D model..

I'm only aware of the R-50m model, which has a mic cable.

Looks interesting.

Can you expand a bit about those imperfections? And how much did you paid in total?

It has a few minor scratches.. and I'm not getting a good seal on the left side, the right ear is hurting a bit, though both this issues might be my fault when doing the molds.

I can send to him without cost to adjust but I don't think I will.. it took a long time to arrive here.

I suggest you to read through the last pages of the thread too, there were a lot of people raging about him (Rob from inearcustom).

Back there (six months ago), it was $140 for the re-shelling, plus $25 for the shipping (international, but you pay only once) and more $15 for the optional detachable shure cable with mic (they already provide a shure detachable cable without mic, so you pay only the difference).

It took about 40 days for the process of re-shelling.

I've had the R50s for about a year now and really feel like they what I'm looking for in sound signature.  Being an appreciation thread I assume a lot of you guys feel the same and appreciate a neutral sound, so I'm wondering what type of full size headphones do you guys prefer?
