When the next version of Windows comes out, we may just want to leave the sounds on instead of switching them off. Why? Apparently Mr. Fripp of King Crimson fame will be creating those sounds:

I had no idea Microsoft was anywhere near that hip.

Looking into it further, it turns out that Brian Eno wrote the little "boong-bliiing-tink-tink-tink™" sound that started up Windows 95 (click here and do a find for "Microsoft", it's way down the page).

Someone at Microsoft is big into ambient!

He wouldn't play drums, he'd just throw chairs in time with the music.

(sorry, geek joke. no offence meant to the Microsoft employees here, it's all in fun. :>)
