Tasty thread, I really dig old funk and soul. I usually fall back on the solo debut of Curtis Mayfield called 'Curtis' or James Brown & JBs with their many recordings of which the 'In The Jungle Groove' is my favourite album, those break beats and grooves...

Some time soon Joe Tex will be a part of my collection. For the time being I'm on the look out for classical Baroque and Jazz. Eclectic taste in music often makes up for difficult choices.

Curtis Mayfield ..... sigh.... one of my fav's.

YouTube - TAKE THAT TO THE BANK / SHALAMAR

Glad to see Shalamar mentioned. Here's my fave:

YouTube - Shalamar - Night to Remember

Folks may not know that the members of this group (yes, that's Jodi Watley) were originally Soul Train dancers. Early on, Jeffrey Daniel (the butler/bartender here) passed dance moves to Michael Jackson.

I never knew they were Soul Train dancers. Interesting! Howard Hewitt is very underrated. I need to get some of his solo stuff.

I have two of Jamie Lidell's albums. I am not sure if he has any more. He is making some great music. With him and Lewis Taylor over there in the UK they are representing soul music well.

I also have his latest album, JIM. Can be compared to Raphael Saadiq's latest record (the retro sound). Nice music!
