Hey Wavoman,
Thanks for the write up. I've been ripping SACD's to WAV files, too. I use an Oppo  BDP-83 SACD player > Kanex PRO HDMI audio de-embedder > Sound Devices 702T (coaxial input). The files come out as 88.2/16 bit. I can't determine if the low bit rate is coming from the Oppo or the Kanex. The 702T just records whatever comes it's way and certainly would record 24bits if they were fed.
I believe the Oppo would do 176.4Kz but for portable music 88.2 is fine for me. Certainly a big step up from 44.1.
Also this method just creates one huge file without individual tracks. I haven't spent any time looking for a way to cut them down on the mac.
I mostly listen to the files on an AK120, that converts to DSD>PCM, so it seems fine to do the conversion early on. I have about 125 SACD's that I would love to load onto my player and have them on the go. But I don't want to do it twice, and the 16bit thing makes me hesitate.
I really don't get why Sony makes this so difficult. I did buy the SACD's!
I also record DVD-A's directly from the Oppo coax output to the sound devices. They come in just fine at 24bit, usually at 96khz. Here I also get one big track.
Thanks,
Sam Edwards
