Review: Questyle Audio QP1R - With Multiple Headphone and IEM Pairings
Mar 31, 2017 at 4:59 PM Post #4,638 of 7,140
I just got my new QP1R, and I have a question.

Has anyone figured out a good way to block the Line Out port? (I'm worried that I'll plug headphones in by accident, which would be a disaster. I bought these plastic plugs, but they deactivate the headphone port when inserted.)

These work perfectly. There are also mini usb plugs. I use them to keep the dust out.

What a fabulous and detailed review, thank you.

Apologies for the noob question: I have a QP1R and a Mojo. How do I connect the two? You mentioned 'optical' but what sort of cable connects the output on the QP1R (3.5mm?) with the optical input on the Mojo (yes, sorry - a real noob question).

I'm sorry myself I don't think the Mojo adds anything worthwhile to the mix. Going to leave it there.

Yes, but since qp1r doesn't play through folders, i have an idea to make Playlist with some amount of albums. It will be hard do that with adding song by song...

You could copy the playlist from your QP1R and change the file extension to txt. You can then manually add the songs of an album to it per the procedure in this post: http://www.head-fi.org/t/778877/review-questyle-audio-qp1r-with-multiple-headphone-and-iem-pairings/3915#post_13163867

What toslink cable do you all recommend. Tried a toslink to mini cable off Amazon but due to recessed LO jack the connection the connection was very iffy and returned. Are there any toslink mini cables out there that works with the QP1R or are folks using the adapter? I've been looking at sys concept 1300 and using the included adapter.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

See below:

Can Rob or anyone else with experience tell me if there is an audible difference between a high quality plastic versus glass TOSLINK to mini cable. Seems there are many different opinions with some saying it is not possible to get differences since any signal degradation would just prevent any modulation to get accurate sound. I don't want to waste money on glass if they are more fragile and offer no sound quality enhancement over plastic for a short cable run.

So Lifatec Glass Toslink Cable versus Sys Concept
SEE the explanation below as to why plastic may be better.

I can't find the original post, but Rob believes there is no audible difference with regards to plastic verus glass toslink cables for his dacs.

They either work or they don't especially at high frequencies over 94k glass is better than plastic in genaral this is because glass has less luminous hysteresis. That's the effect you get dramatically increased some plastics toys that glow in the dark. All plastics do that to some effect. So glass can be switched on and off faster

Rob's response

Bog standard plastic - except for 192 kHz, when I use very short bog standard plastic!

My DAC's are intolerant of jitter, and also intolerant of optical's asymettric rise and fall times - the SPDIF rx in the FPGA automatically calibrates for this. So long as it is bit perfect, I have not been able to hear any difference.

I have bought Kabel Direkt - excellent service.

Thanks - this is what I was looking for. Just wondering, this goes from the Optical input on the Chord to the QP1R, so you are obviously not using the 'coax' input. Any reason why?
