REVIEW: Musical Paradise MP-301 Tube Headphone / Speaker amp

Welcome to head-fi, sorry for your wallet :)

I currently have Sylvania 6V6GT's and 6AU6's in mine (which is actually being used by my son as a speaker amp). They do a very respectable job.

I don't like metal envelope tubes. Too microphonic.

I wasn't aware the MP301 would accept the 6L6. Many 6V6 amps will, though.

Yes, I asked the same thing to Garry Huang. And he stated 6L6 can be used and it will give you 0.5 more watt on output. Now that to me now makes it a lot more interesting. If not confusing.

Do you have any pictures of the back/inputs of this? Looks to be really nice! Thanks for the great review

My understanding is that it is not, but that a "MkII" version is being worked on.

I found the one I just received used and be offered in the trading post of another forum. After researching a bit and finding out that a bunch of folks mod these with the help of the products designer in some cases, I did see a post in which he (Gary Hueng) says they are working on MKII like skylab mentioned and it is tenatively coming out in March. Another gentleman posted that after contacting MP he was told the release date of March also and a rough estimate of around $ 250.00 for each unit. After owning an original version for 5 days and playing it continuously during that time and only tweaking it with one of the simpler mods...it just gets better and better..easily worth more than its retail price point in my opinion. My intention was to use this amp for headphones only but have been driving my mains with it and really enjoying the sound.
When it popped up for sale, I came here and read skylabs review and then bought it based on that review as my only resource....worked out well, very well in fact.

I am very interested in the MP301 V2.

Been emailing with Garry, about 1 dozen emails and each and every time he answers me!!

Good cutomer relations !

I asked him about the new MP301 and he told me its 1 watt for the headphones.
