Well you did everything that you should. I'm sorry to hear about the wire hardening issue. This is the first time i've heard of the wires hardening on the Atrios. I just hope it doesn't happen again.

I've never heard of that issue either.  I own/have owned the past three generations of Atrios.; that's four years of Atrios.  Send them in, something is wrong.

Also I just ordered a Monster Supertip kit with gels and foams.  The come with adapters to fit the nozzle on the M5 according to Monster's web site.  I have a pair of their gel mediums that a fellow headfier supplied with the HJE900's I just bought.  The are really comfortable but their medium is bigger than normal mediums.  I bought them to use with the HJE900's but  I'll report back how the do with the M5's when I get them.

Got the monster supertip set today. The gels are super comfortable but for me the shure e2c mod sounds best and is nearly as comfortable. The monster gel supertips are a close second. They just aren't quite as clear sounding as the Shures. These would be a good choice if you didn't want to go the mod route. The monster sampler packs come with little red adapters to fit on small nozzle phones like the Atrios. If you get them don't accidently throw them away when ripping open the package! They are tiny and rolled up in a little ziplock bag. Almost missed them!

Today I was talking to a Future Sonics rep. A very nice lady that always answers all my questions. And I told her for the next generation Atrios...a green color would be eye catching and she replied it's ironic that you said that because when she was in a meeting she pitched the idea for the green color Atrios but they eventually went with the brown color. But she said for the next generation of Atrios she will bring that idea up again. Also I told her about the barrel foams and how hard it is to get into my ears. I gave comply as an example and explained to her that if they can taper the entrance way that enters the ears first just like comply does it would make it easier to get into the ear. She said she wishes they can do that but comply has a patent on that. She also said once again they will never change the size of the nozzle on the Atrios. So I don't have to have my SofterWear Sleeves redone.

@Baz, I will I'm already in the works of it the customer service is brillant. But then so is Phonak. All I can say is the brown is masculine its apart of me as my watch or my knife. It looks great I'll probably get the custom colored to match this as well. And I don't even like brown but its highly polished while remaining understated. Green seems like a fashion highlight when I hear green I think lime...

Well I just spoke to Future Sonics rep. and she said my SofterWear Sleeves will be shipped today. In fact when i called she had them in her hands and she said I should receive them this monday. She also said my ears have an interesting shape and if i have any problems inserting them to call her for help.

I told her I want to be a Future Sonics customer for life because I really like Future Sonic's sound signature.

Post impressions when you receive them I can say that their customer service is definitely as brilliant as claimed. I'm currently bombarding their emails with missiles I hope they can survive onslaught.

Yeah we all know I'm pretty into Future Sonics' sound, I'm a friggin Atrio fiend

Starsky I can't wait to see what you think of those sleeves.

I would be very interested to know if FS custom sleeves would fit Westone phones too, since they have the small type nozzle. If I knew it could fit more than one phone it would be really tempting. The only thing abou the Westones is their nozzle is shorter than the Atrios.

I am thinking about getting the Monster Supertips. I just want to get this problem taken care of. I'm through my first pair of foams tips for the Atrios (they did not last longer than a few weeks of light use). But, other than this small problem with tips, I could not be happier with these headphones. At first I was afraid that there was zero soundstage. Now I can see that the soundstage is there, it is just somewhat intimate, and imaging in pretty precise. Best IEMs for the music I listen to, and so I am very satisfied. Of course, this is the fifth or sixth post explaining how much I love these things. . .

Well I enjoyed my SofterWear Sleeves Atrios today for 2 hours. I had to send them back for adjustment on the left SofterWear sleeve. It was hell to put into my ears and it was longer in length than the right. The right sleeve was a perfect fit and I got it in easily and got a perfect seal all the time. But the left sleeve definitely something is wrong because it was hell to get it into my ear canal to begin with & I couldn't get it in all the way in my ear canal like the right one.

I enjoyed them for 2 hours and I really like the sound I got. I'll go by the right ear because that was the ear that got the perfect fit.

Comfort: 10/10  on the right ear
Isolation: 7/10   It islolates a little better than the double flange eartips.
Bass:      9/10   the bass is there but it doesn't hit as hard but it's close to the double flange sleeves

Also I noticed the exiting sound holes are the same size as the Atrios nozzle and not big like the double flange sleeves. This post will be updated once I get them back from Future Sonics.

Here is a pic i took today while I was enjoying them and suffering at the time because of the damn left SofterWear Sleeve fitting problem.

Nice! Too bad you had to send em back, although so goes the tale of most custom earphones. Hopefully it won't be too long before you get the refit done.
