REVIEW: Denon AH-D5000 (56k beware)

Ok, What. I just got this notice from audiocubes.

Quote:

The estimated wait time until shipment is 5-7 days. Once shipped the order should take about
4-7 days to deliver.

Is this some kind of joke? Who was it that said they ordered from audiocubes and got them in less than a week, from payment to on the head?

I would not lay the blame on them just yet - could be the same thing that happened with PriceJapan a few weeks ago: they were in stock and shipping immediately, but then there was a 2-week backorder at factory level. In other words, might be out of their hands entirely, especially since they keep stock at their warehouse which may have depleted and they are awaiting new arrivals from Denon direct.

Haha wow.

Well, I have to say that my experiences with AudioCubes weren't that nice in terms of the wait period. It took them two weeks for my in-stock A500 to ship (but it got to the U.S. in three days by EMS after it shipped). Meh.

I'm going to wait it out because with my luck, the same thing will happen with PJ, and I don't want to pay with PJ because paypal ads an extra 3.3% with them.

Should it be relatively easy to set up the D5000 with XLR connectors, for balanced operation?

Has anyone done a head-to-head comparison to the HD650 (with or without an aftermarket cable)....that is, not by memory, but an A-B type test?

I have, but like I said they are not broken in. Which may or may not make a diffeerence. They now have about 12 hours on them and I do think the midrange and top end has improved a bit and sounds less veiled and closed in as the 650s.

I still don't think the bass is a good thing. I find it a bit overpowering and blotted. Definitely not accurate reproduction. Even when running pink noise I can hear the bass.

With what amp is that? Perhaps it isn't being controlled well? I remember asking Skylab about the same thing and he said the bass is about perfect....guess there are too many factors involved (subjectivity being one of them

SR-71, LD2++(all tubes), and the 0404 headphone output. I don't have any problems with the bass on any of my other phones with those amps. I think a lot of it has to do with the earpad design. I think if there was less material behind the ear it would improve things.
