Any recommendations from those who have heard both amps first hand with K1000, HD-650 or RS-1? Much appreciated.

The Cary is the only one built to handle the K1000 and other phones you mentioned. The sound from the SDS is beautiful, but it takes around 3/4 of the volume to drive the K1000. When I had my K1000 they were at there best when used with the speaker binding posts of a regular speaker amp. As far as the other phones you mentioned both do very, very, good with the SDS.

how much power is ideal to allow the K1000 to fully show its capabilities?

Actually it's not about the power, it's about the voltage.

I've listened to my K1000 with an .5W headphone amp as well as with 110W SS poweramp and the results were pretty much the same if consider only volume level. 110W surely give somthing more to the sound.

EDIT: I havn't read your question carefully. I think you better buy some really good inegrated amp to drive K1000. I've listened to it through all ASL amps that are capable of driving it and in the 1005 the tubes were WE 300B. I've also listened to some Russian DIY amp (the one that is .5W).

I liked my Audionet AMP III better by a good margin to say the least.

But still take my comment as a grain of sault because I find their presentation to be very artificial regardless of the amp used.

I just acquired a 15wpc Cary 300SEI... anyone have any reservations of using this amp with K1000? TIA.
