Hi all,

Help! My AKG K501's pads are disintegrating before my eyes. I'm trying to get replacement pads but to no avail. Headroom et. al. are no longer stocking replacement parts for AKG K501s. Also, looking at Headroom's K601 and K701 replacement pads stated VERY CLEARLY that they will only fit K601 or K701 and cannot be used with the K501.

Any ideas? Anyone knows if the K701 or the K601 replacement pads can be easily used (i.e. without any mods) on the K501s?

If not, anyone out there knows where to get replacement pads for K501s?

Thanks very much for your help in advance..

I believe you can still contact Frank Rodriguez at FRodrigu@harman.com for your needs or be pointed in the right direction at least. I have the phone number somewhere but where that is escapes me right now.

The K701 pads easily fit on the K501 without mods.

Beware though, the sound changes drastically. A few people were experimenting with K701 pads on the K501 and some liked the changes to the sound, others didn't.

K701 fits nicely?

Hmm..maybe the sound changes because of the "3d" form factor. What about the K601 pads then? Those don't have a 3d form to it right? Will those fit and still maintain the sound?

Thanks again!

They will both fit. People have widely differing opinions about how much the 601 and 701 pads do to "warm up" the 501s. I think the 701s go too far and kill the treble energy of the 501s - and they just get too muddy. The 601 pads, however, on the 501s, are just right for me - a little warmth and a little more weight to the sound.

Here is the datasheet for a few related AKG phones:

Pads for the K501 seem to be:
2458M0404

I found them at the UK site:
CIMPLE Solutions Pro Ltd
EDIT: but they now tell me they are out of stock

I think K701 pads sound great on the K501, much better than stock pads actually. They do loose a little sparkle, but i can't handle how much treble the stock pad gives them. It sounds like the k601 pads may be a perfect balance for them. i would recomend that over trying to source the stock ones
