I'll be bringing my records back down to NC with me in a week when I leave. I'm driving from NH to PA on the first day, staying with a friend that night. The records would be in one of these:

Will there be any damage if I keep the records in the car overnight, which will likely be reach freezing temperatures?

he wouldnt let you bring them inside?

either way, i'd be far more afraid of heat than i would of cold.  you chose a good time of year to leave them in the car

It's not that he won't let me take them in, just that it's quite a big item and would be put into the bottom of an area. If all goes well I'll be able to slide it in last, but it'll likely be one of the first things in the car.

Yep, I'd worry much more about heat than cold. That's the reason I didn't drive any records out to Arizona when it was still hot as hell.
