Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Genelec offers something like that with their new "aural id" service, but nevertheless further frequency adjustments are needed.
Someone could try to replicate the service by creating a 3d scan of his head/ ears to load it into mesh2hrtf, but I can't find any instructions for the program.

I found this YouTube video on mesh2hrtf he says he will follow up with a guide but I only see one video.

Looks interesting, but reading the documentation clearly the quality of the 3D scans is key, and the options without an iPhone aren't good. So happy I have Impulcifer.
I’m great full for impulcifer and cannot see myself watching movies or gaming without it. Just want the height channels so bad

Plus the true binaural audio is a game changer with the immersion it brings.

Not a gamer but totally understand the interest and motivation. If I had an iPhone I'd definitely be trying this out, even though for my music listening what I get with Impulcifer is better than I could wish for. The more tools and interest in personal HRTFs the better. Look forward to how this one develops. Thanks for linking it.

He replied on YouTube saying a proper guide will be coming soon so I will be testing it. I have an iPhone 13 pro but he’s saying the iPhone 10 is better for scanning. Just not sure if I need another operating system to use with mesh2hrtf otherwise I’d be trying it out now

That’s true. Impulcifer is soo good and well made. The only problem is getting consistent results and not knowing if what you have is the best. That’s why I want to try Mesh2hrtf and then compare the results. Maybe it will put me at ease with my current measurements or maybe it will indicate there’s something missing in my setup.

Maybe they both work and can be used together in the future for perfect results.

Either way I still love impulcifer and thank jakko for the brilliant work he has done from what not many people have been able to achieve. Still boggles me how he’s done something that normally would take several minds with a lot of money and equipment.

@jaakkopasanen . I've thought about that a few times, but you probably should edit your first post to present things a little or at least add the link for Impulcifier. I know it's in your signature, but I keep linking the first page of this thread when that first page has zero relevant information(beside your signature but I'm not sure many people get it).

Mesh2HRTF is a very interesting project. But it seems to be very difficult to make good 3D scans with consumer hardware. You also don't have headphone compensation.
But you also won’t need to worry about sound proofing your room. Worth trying to see what the results are like. Only issue atm is the instructions are all over the place unlike jakkos guide which was complete and written well.

This guy talks about waves nx able to play Dolby atmos for height channels. Isn’t there a way to use what waves nx uses for our own hrir’s

Unless they have changed that in the recent years, no. The basic version that came with the kickstarter's headphone tracker was super limited(crap), and the more advanced version just had more controls like the ability to move the speakers around, but all based on the preset HRTF. The only customization tool for the impulses was to give the size of your head(circumference). And while it did improve things for me subjectively, it was nowhere near an option to add your own impulse responses. I know because it's the reason I finally gave it up at the time and started convolving my own stuff with the Reverberate VST(not the free one as it didn't have "true stereo").

Don’t know if it’s the in ear mics you were asking about. But if you were these are the ones I bought from eBay they’re the ones that got me the best results
