I have a few artists/albums that have songs with beautiful female vocals backed by a string section or solo violin. I would really like to find some more music with my two favorite instruments: female voice and violin!

Can anyone recommend anything in any genre that would fit the bill? I would prefer soprano vocalist and a solo violin but am open to anything as long as it is female vocals and has a emphasis on strings to back it up.

A slightly offbeat choice for you is Over the Rhine

I recommend "Films for Radio" as your first entry.

Have you tried any Cecilia Bartoli? She does a lot of solo recordings, sometimes accompanied by strings. Opera Prohibita might fit, or some of the other discs focused on arias or a specific composer.

I love Bluegrass (see my location)

I have plenty of Krauss but that is more fiddle and really moving away from what I'm looking for which is more a blend of classic violin or small string section backing female vocals. I'm looking for that strong emphasis on the vocals and violin.
