Hi there, I planning on purchasing a quality earphone for portable use. I'll be using it on the buse and some noisy environment. Any suggestions and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

the quick n easy answer to your question seems to be the Etymotic ER-4S, though i have no personal experience they are universally praised earphones if you don't mind sticking something so deep in there

however be prepared to drop $260 on them (ouch!)

About the Etymotic ER-4P and ER-4S, boy...those earphones are expensive. I think my wallet is crying right now.

I'm thinking about Sony MDR-NC11 Noise-Canceling Earphone from AudioCubes.com, but I'm also afraid if this is a safe bet. Does anyone has any experience with this earphone, before I jump into Etymotic.

Guess I'll stay away from that Sony one. Thanks for the helping everyone!

Apparently, Etymotic will be my only choice. Does anyone have an experience with ER-6? I'm a little bit tight on the budget. However, if necessary I'm willing to spend the extra money on ER-4S. How's the sound quality on ER-6 compare with ER-4S though?

My first purchase of "audiophile" quality was the ER-4P to use with my Ipod. I know, I know perhaps not the best source, but I'm extremely pleased with the sound and especially the isolation!!
I too wish $279 wasnt the entry price to pay for this expensive and addictive hobby

think of all the money you've saved by not buying a porta pro, then upgrading to a senn hd497, then upgrading to a grado sr60 or sr80, then upgrading to the sony v6, then upgrading to the senn hd280pro, then upgrading to a beyer dt250-80, then upgrading to the ety 4's...

seriously, consider all options - like, "will i need an amp right away?" if you don't like stuff in your ears, well... just read the following articles:

and then every now and then you find something like this which will make you think long & hard: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...threadid=20027

good luck on your choice(s).

Well... like a guy in this forum once said:
"those who say sony sucks simply has hidden agenda, biased opinion, or they have something against sony" or something like that.
In fact not ALL sony are junk
the mdr-r10 is regarded here as the best dynamic phone, sony cd3000 is in the same league as hd600, mdr-f1 is the most comfy phone, cd1700...
there are still somemore
Yes, including V6. They don't suck
also the e888 earphone and the ex-70 is quite good.

Sony MDR-EX70 is a cheap way to get into reasonably good audio in noisy places in an earphone form factor. I find them a bit thuddy, for want of a better word but you can do stuff to them which reduces the bass a bit, or better still use the equaliser on your player if you have one.
Ordinary earphones don't work in noisy places because you have to turn up the volume to stupid levels. I was quite interested in the Etymotics but a couple of people have said to me now that they're good but not the panacea to all audiophile needs that they're reckoned to be here.
