Well, you may be in as situation just like me. I'm kinda new (I stopped viewing for a big while, now I need small earphones), so, good luck on finding new cans (I highly recommend the awsome sounding SR-80's (which I may sell to you at $80!))

AudioTechnica makes the A500s, A700s, etc

Click on the link at the top of the page, there is a link for AUDIO CUBES there. They carry many of the AT phones.

I do own the HP890s, and while I think they are pretty decent all around phones, and are SUPER comfortable, you could probably do better.

what sorts of music do you listen to specifically?
will you use an amp?

thanks, good luck too

Thanks! i'll be using the headphones with a hi-fi and sometimes my guitar amp. I pretty much listen to anything from blues, rock to heavy metal. I noticed Taurui's gear. I'll be using a Behringer V-Amp 2 ocasionaly with the headphones too!

My recommendations should be pretty nice for rock, metal and blues by the way. I haven't heard the audio technicas, though

As for the V-Amp 2, it isn't picky, any decent headphone will do.

Out of the Beyer DT440 and the Ultrasone 650, which would people say is better? They will be used with a Sony D25 and a Creative Nomad Xtra, possibly with an amp later on.
I listen to everything, with the majority being trance/dance and rock.

yeah i would look in to the Grado's and the AT's either the 125's or the A700's. i was in a toss up between the 225's and the A900's. i settled on the A900's and couldnt be happier.

They have good bass and midrange. What I don't like is that treble is too sharp for me. Some people like that, but I don't. Makes the sound a little coarse in my ears. Can be good for instrumental, but not voices.

If you like the philips you might want to take a look at the HP1000 (not the grado's
rolleyes.gif
)they are a bit more refined than than 890's and slightly more expensive.
below in this tread:

you can find my opinion about the hp890 vs hp1000.

otherwise i would go with commando's recommendation sinds both the hd555 and the at700 are decend headphones.
