looking for something to go with my new 80GB Classic. i would like to have it sound well straight out of the iPod. amping is in the plans perhaps but i'd rather not if i can get a full sound with rich mids from just a headset.

anything grado sized will be too big to be portable enough. looking for IEM's, GOOD canal phones (

) or a smaller headset like PX100's or KSC75's.

i've tried my little brother's PX100's and they sound fairly decent. could use more midrange and less of that fuzzy veil senns like to have.

Sennheiser HD 25-1. Not very large, very good sound without an amp and decent isolation. Ety ER4P probably is the best sounding IEM, but I have only used the ER4S and this one needs an amp.

Shure's the way to go. I started on E2Cs and I now have E500s, which are mind blowing.

The Etymotic ER-6s are also worth looking at. I had a pair for ages, but they right plug is starting to go funny now. I think some of the internal wiring is loose.

The PX100 and the KSC75 are fine, although I am kind of inclined for the PK1 due to it being much less noticable and still allows you to hear what around you. If listening to what is going on around you is not an issue, then try the Etymotic ER4S.

Another vote for the PK1, though you can't go wrong with any of the Yuins. I'm burning in my PK3 right now, and the little thing sounds great out of the box. Great detail, controlled bass, and vocals come through very clear and crisp. Best $25 (group buy) I ever spent on audio gear.
