Yea, one of the best this year for sure. That and Shearwater's Rook have probably been my favorites. For the thread, I'd suggest checking out Bless You by Court & Spark, kind of a modern country rock classic, though it's a few years old now. Beautiful record. Looking forward to the new Woven Hand next month, but nothing to do with Fleet Foxes, much darker and more passionate. New Calexico too, that one sounds very good.

What a beautiful album! My new favorite, it's been playing constantly! So beautiful. It reminds me of Midlake mixed with Damien Rice and then there's something else too. nice one!

Caught shearwater @ Vegas when they opened for Coldplay. I'm new to their style of music, something quite different from what I've heard before.

Be sure to pick up the Fleet Foxes' EP, which has material as strong as the album's. There is nothing out there quite like the ***; that's why they're so popular. Neutral Milk Hotel is receiving lots of recs, is probably even better than but is nothing like FF. They were/are both on an indie labels and involve guitars, drums, and vocals. Other than that, try to hear FF live--they put on an excellent show.

wow, nice. we seem to have similar taste, as I also am really into bon iver, the shearwater, and court and spark- especially Bless You. I got one of their newer albums, and it sounded way too clean, it was almost cheezy. but i should listen to it more i guess before i go jumping to conclusions. i put it away after the first spin

Well, they're just coming from the same place they've always been coming from

Check out Hope and Adams by Wheat from 2000. Or The Glands, or Up In Flames, or ... Modern Rock Favorites

Iron & Wine is the definition of indie folk in many people`s minds and heck, Sam Beam sports a wicked beard not unlike your mythic Fleet Foxes.

Regarding Iron & Wine (fronted by Samuel Beam), start off with his first album The Creek that Drank the Cradle (which was recorded in his basement alone) and then proceed forward to his latest album, The Shepherd`s Dog, which is his first album to have a full band behind him. His sound and production techniques change with every album.

Another band to check out is Califone (Roomsound is their finest album).

One can often measure the talent of a musician by their beard. Sam doesn`t disappoint in either facet. 8)

My buddy got one of the original Bon Iver CD's (last year) that he produced himself before he was signed. He only made a handful and they sold like wildfire. Both of us put it on our top ten list for 07. And since it was actually released this year, it will likely go there again. Can't say for sure yet... 08 ain't over yet!

Well, they're both from Montreal. I'd say that 'Bye Bye Bye' is the only one of the LP that sounds like Arcade Fire. The vocals are very Win Butler-esque. However, I believe Plants & Animals' sound is a bit more diverse up and down the album compared with a typical Arcade LP.

'Good Friend' and 'Sea Shanty' are my faves.

Bon Iver's "Re: Stacks" is an amazing track. Never gets old for me.

X2 on Neutral Milk Hotel and Iron & Wine. Also, Elliott Smith, The Shins, Belle & Sebastian. Good luck. Thanks for showing me Canada!

EDIT: Also Dispatch. Some of it is slow ska, but a lot is nice folkish songs. Listen to The General, and Two Coins, my 2 fav songs by them. Also Jack Johnson, The Microphones, Del Amitri.
