I plan to get the HD 600 this summer given i get a job for over the summer. I completely realize the 300 ohm impedance means an amp is more or less a must. After getting the HD 600 i am most likely not gonna havea TON of green left over so please recommend me an amp that is USD 200 or less. I would like it if they  pair well with the HD 600. if that is simply impossible, then just try to get as close as possible. I want to avoid tube amps if possible due to the maintenance required but if necessary, i can go that route. I have heard the HD 600 doesn't need an amp to sound good , can more people confirm this if it is true because i am aware that impedance isn't all that matters when it comes to powering cans.
thx

i found out that going solid state at this price point is not a good idea. how does the little dot I+ fare w/ hd600?

you definitely need an amp to get the true sound of the hd600's. whoever told you that you do not need an amp is wrong. personally, i started off with the hd600's coupled with an omega claro halo soundcard and it was phenomenal until i recently purchased a darkvoice tube amp. then crap got ridiculously amazing. i'd say, try not to settle for less if you're really into high-quality music. so save up some more money for some better equipment.

so what would be a good amp to start with? if possible, keep it under 300 for now. i am prob gonna bite the upgrade bug in the future but till then, im going to need an amp that sounds good with the HD600. the gilmore lite isn't an option because those have been discontinued and i seriously doubt anybody would sell those lol.

i see some similarities with beach audio to amazon. the prices for the hd600's are the same. i'm sure buying from beach audio will be fine.

I'm not sure if this is any help as i've a pair of HD600's and a lot of high end seperate's and a have just ordered a matrix m stage.
If it really is a Lehmann black cube linear clone then i think at $269 it'll be some bargain.
I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when it arrives.
Happy hunting till then.

beach audio's site has 2 different models for sale. one is 318 and is the HD600mp. that is the model of it but it is still the Hd 600. and another  the avante garde term specifically referenced in its description and it sells for 400. are there any differences?
 600mp

600 "avante garde"
wow, the price for it jumped from 318 to almost 350. is something going on here that i am not aware of? is Sennheiser stopping production of this set? that and the avante garde version is out of stock.

i'd say just stick with the cheaper one. the price jump is the same on amazon. you could also frequent the For Sale section and look to see if someone is selling the 600's at a cheaper price.

I went on eBay and saw razordog deals selling them for 288. I think I'll just buy it off eBay.
