Huge bonus for me was - the Canon A75 uses AA batteries. Awesome. If you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and the batts die and you dont have time to charge up your batts in the car, just stop by a rest stop get get some batts!

I got a Canon SD200 for my girlfriend and I like it a lot. It's about $220 or so. It doesn't have manual focus or exposure, I don't think. But I use my other camera for that.

Another vote for the Canon A75. I got it for my mom, and it is great. Very punchy and accurate colors and nice clear detail. You will not be sorry if you get one

I had a canon a-85 and didn't like the build quality on it. It also got pretty warm with use, and the autofocus didnt always do the job well. I think the original a-80's were actually better than the a-85, and it was not an upgrade but a market perspective that they released the ax5 series. I perfer my sony actually. Amazingly simple, and cheap.
