The other one I forgot to mention

is All About Eve, though you may be better off getting a compilation now. They should only be about a fiver.

Julianne Regan (or whatever the hell her name is!) has one of the best female vocals I've heard (oh and it isnt prog either!!!

Strange, but no one seems to have suggested:-

Karrin Allyson;
Shirley Horn;
Astrid Gilberto (Bossa Nova!)

Keiko Lee (with a word of warning, although she is popular you may not like her...I bought her 'best of' cd last night and was bitterly disappointed, a thick and lifeless voice and a really slow vocal delivery, yawnnnn IMHO)

Great thread...there's nothing like amazing female voclaists/musicians. Looks like I have similar tastes to a couple of you but there's one new name that you've got to explore:

Nanci Griffith!! (get MCA years)

I also love:
Kasey Chambers (listeing to Wayward Angel right now)
Lucinda Williams - Sweet Old World
Suzanne Vega
Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark and Blue

and here are two more awesome but more obscure female singers (but no less amazing than anyone else in this thread):

Ferron (listen to Driver)
June Tabor (one of the most amazing voices ever)

Cheers, Mike (should be working but this is so much more fun)
