So I know that there are other threads on real vs fake, but I was just wondering about the regular
Monster Turbines because I am still unclear about the main differences.

So what I gathered here from Head-Fi (which was very helpful thank you).

Fake:

  1. Don't open the same. Don't fold out the same.
  2. Cheaper/Thinner box
  3. Color distortion
  4. Different lengths

So another question is the placement of the Monster Logo on the front box. Is it suppose to be at the bottom? All the
real ones.

Thanks

The logo is always on top of the "turbine" word. If it's at the bottom of the box, it's fake.

For those that wonder about the SQ of the fakes...They sound like crap. Deep bass but leaks into mid. Bloated midbass, tinny mids, okay-ish highs

Cool thanks, so are these real?

It seems too good to be true, meaning they are probably fake, but just curious.

In the other thread they posted pictures of fakes that looked similar to these (can't seem to find the thread currently).

Also, does Monster change the design of the box around? Any way to tell for sure?

The one on Amazon has logo on bottom. Is it the other way around?

Monster is having a Holiday sale on refurbished products. If buying a refurb with a 90 day warranty is acceptable to you than $40 plus shipping straight from the company that manufactures them is probably your best way to go. I could not resist and ordered a pair even though I have absolutely no need for them.

Thanks, but I think I'm going to go with new ones. Is there a way to tell from the box if it is fake or not?

For example

These (I think may be fake): http://cgi.ebay.com/Monster-Turbine-High-Performance-In-Ear-Speakers-NIB-/290515936957?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item43a41966bd
and

These (picture off Monster website) the Monster logo on the official box is at the bottom. So the ones on eBay are fake?

You'd rather risk fakes on EBay then buy perfectly good refurbished ones from Monster itself?

You do know that B-Stock items which are refurbished are just left over items after the holiday season from companies who buy more then needed who sell them on amazon, and in order not to lose money they sell them back to Monster. IT basically means you get new factory sealed headphones direct from the manufacture.

Ok thanks. Another question, I see like 100 dollar monster turbines and the monster logo on the box is above the turbine logo as opposed to real ones that have it on the bottom.
Argh! So how can you tell which box is real or not?

Like there are these http://cgi.ebay.com/Monster-Turbine-Performance-In-Ear-Speakers-Headphones-/220710823143?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336363e4e7
from a top rated seller and the box front looks different?

and on youtube the guy says he got it from monster directly, and the box looks different

These two are the new box I (and everyone) who ordered from Amazon have been getting, you can see that the side shows the 90° plug and better strain relief that they had on the Pro models and are adding to the regular - I guess some newer orders got the new model instead of just the box. If it was me I'd look for that box on a new model since 1) ideally it'd be the new model and have those features, and 2) it'll take the fakes a bit to get the new box art for their product so it's more likely to be legit.

The ebay listing seems like someone who got them for $60 on Amazon is looking to make a buck but if the Monster refurb sale is still going and you don't mind the lack of warranty you may as well get a set for $40.

Picture doesn't really mean anything, if the seller is selling fake what is stopping the seller to steal a legit photo to display as the one he is selling for? Other than lack of information, most people got cheated because of greed (pls help to find a better word to use in this case, my english is limited), every seller want to maximize the profit so if he is selling at price way below what others are selling what is the logic behind the motive?
