You should check out The Roots. Some good ones from their album "How I Got Over":

  1. How I Got Over (Feat. Dice Raw)
  2. Right On (Feat. Joanna Newsome, STS)
  3. The Day (Feat. Blu, Phonte, Patty Crash)

+1

Their album rising down is also worth a listen. Really good spots from common, dice raw, and wale. And black thought as usual.

Yup, guy can make a song with no words and speak volumes. Been trying to find others that can do it like him or somewhat close, no dice yet.

I'd recommend Donuts, by J Dilla., and Madlib's Beat Konducta series. Both are truly beautiful masterpieces, spanning different cultures and offering up a diverse array of instrumentals.

Donuts has some reaaaal goodness on it. Also check Dilla's The Shining which contains actual ''songs'' instead of snippets of music.

Madlib's Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6 - A Tribute to Dilla is another good one.

Also check out the Madlib and Freddie Gibbs collaboration with singles like Shame and Thuggin'. A full album called Cocaine Piñata should drop later this year. I'll be on the look out fo' rizl

A couple green MCs I've heard recently are Honors English and Gorilla Warfare Tactics. They both have free music on their websites. They both also are largely self-producers. If you're looking for something new, its definitely worth a look.
