Dad found a box of 35 or so of these at work, brand new. Are they valuable at all? Don't suppose there's anything neat I could build with them, is there?

YES! Any nos 6550's are hard to find. Generally tung sol 6550's are considered THE best. I dont know here RCA's rank in the pecking order but I am sure you could get a good price for them. You could build a nice push pull power amp using two to four 6550's per channel

As it happens, there are 49 tubes in the box. 48 are Tung Sol Branded 6550 Made-in-usa, lot number 3226817-3. Theres a single RCA branded 6550 in there too.

Anyone have any info on these? ie:what could I sell them for?

Also looking for some DIY suggestions, is there anything relatively cheap I could build with them (links, etc)

thanks

I head some cool monoblocks just last week that were powered by the Tung Sol 6550. Wow. These will get top dollar on Ebay or Head-Fi or whatever!

thrawn86 is my son.

Working on some testing equipment for all these. I have to return ~4 to work, and I'll probably keep a few. More details to come.

I've heard $ figures from 50 to 100$ per tube, and even more for matched pairs.

$50 is way to low. I priced these at ANTIQUE ELECTRONIC SUPPLY FOR $147.50 EACH. I talked to a tube dealer buddy of mine today and he said $125 minimum for nos, nib tested tung sol 6550's. These are the best of the best 6550 and they are hard to find.

Sometimes tube companies purchased tubes from other companies and simply put them in their own box. If the tubes are clearly labled tung sol like you stated to me thats what counts. Tube dealers often repackage new tubes in plain white boxes because the original tube box is deteriorated. The big determinant of the tubes value is if the tubes show no usage and test new. If so, your still in the money.
