Julie & Julia -- 8/10

An altogether good movie, that accent Meryl Streep puts on is too funny!

I also watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, and after it ended I felt just as I had after watching Lost in Translation the first time. What the hell just happened? An hour-and-a-bit of stuff and then what? If I ever get to rewatching it I might actually like it just like I came to like LIT.

Babel - 5/10.

This is a movie trying to be more than it is.

It's billed as a complex story intertwining 4 different familes in different parts of the world, but, it's not. It's a story of crap luck involving mostly one family, somewhat less another family, and very peripherally a completely unrelated scenario in a third. Oh, and the nanny.

The complexity comes not from the story but from the story having been broken up into 3 parts which are then presented out of order, and occasionally interrupted by a tacked-on scenario involving a lonely, moderately hot japanese girl who gets naked.

Heavenly Creatures - 7/10

Probably would have enjoyed it more if I weren't a dude.

Watchmen: Ultimate Cut

Anyone who was a fan of the recent Watchmen movie will appreciate this. If you didn't like the movie, this cut probably isn't going to change your perception. Solid 3 1/2 hours of movie incorporating the additional scenes from the directors cut + the Tales of the Black Freighter animated sequences interspersed within the action all flow very well to create the story that Snyder intended to show from the beginning. Overall, 8.5/10

Orphan - 7/10

Interesting thriller, for once I actually liked "the twist" near the end.
