Bunny and the Bull

Available on NetFlix streaming

Interesting dark British drama with Burton and Gillam-esque flash backs that are alone a reason to view the movie.

Outstanding art direction, quirky characters and a story including times of wasted youth that are ubiquitous in all our lives.

Well worth the time spent watching.

Don Jon ( 2013) 9/10

Director and writer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

This is one of my favorite if not the most favorite movies of the year coming from Hollywood. It's not that I was crazy exited after watching it but I was definitely satisfied which haven't happened for a long time. The reason why I'm enthusiastic about this film because it is probably the first time this year ( I'm speaking about Hollywood) when I felt personally connected to the story and to the director's vision ( which happens very seldom). I felt that what Gordon-Levitt wanted to portray was very close to my perception.

I think that the movie was done ( directed and written) very skilfully. In reviews I read that Don Jon is a comedy. I don't think so. There were some funny moments but Joseph in my opinion was trying to make a serious movie though in a light tone. I like how this movie doesn't fall into obvious cliches. It's sometimes funny but it's not a comedy, it's serious but it's not a drama. There are a lot of scenes of sex but it's not vulgar.

Well, the movie managed to turn out as cool as Gordon-Levitt himself.

Really looking forward to seeing this one--I don't know if I can convince the GF though. Suspect I'll wind up seeing Rush or The Prisoners this weekend instead...

Don Jon is pretty provocative. It openly discusses male's natural inclination to porn and masturbation. I think that Gordon-Levitt made a pretty bold film which can rise "skeletons in the closet" questions.

JG-L has really become one of my favorite actors...he's in a very small group of people who can get me to see a film simply because they're in it. Can't wait to see this one.

My GF is actually all down for seeing Don Jon. We have it pegged from the trailers as a romantic comedy for men, but with a dark side from the few little glimpses of violence and anger.

Wreck-it Ralph

It could have been funnier. It could have been a little less odd in places, could have had better action, could have could have blah blah blah. I even don't like Sarah Silverman, at all, and am generally iffy on John C. Reilly. And yet, I thought they both did a great job and I want to round up and give it a solid 8/10. It hit hard where it had to, the heart.

I had to hold back a frickin tear at the ending. Did not see that coming out of me at all. That gives it a bonus point from me.

Turtles are Surprisingly Fast Swimmers - 7.25/10

Had fun watching it but some of the more bizarre moments are almost disturbing. I can't take people randomly screaming/shouting for no reason. That's supposed to be funny?
In the end it's really pointless, but somewhat worth watching.

Bought this from the UK since I liked the directors other film "Adrift in Tokyo".

Why does the UK get all the good asian films and the USA doesn't? Here it's mostly Japanese horror films or B&W movies!
If it's a Kung Fu movie they'll usually give it a rap soundtrack and cut the movie down to 82 minutes.

BTW did you know you can easily make any US bought Philips player into being Region FREE?

Rush 9.5/10

Doesn't matter if you like F1, or racing for that matter. Its a well crafted thrill ride that'll expose the man behind the machine, and the physical and mental struggles the profession entails.
Add to that a rivalry thats one of the best in history.

Its a shame such rivalry doesn't exist in F1 today.

Rush (2013): 8/10

It's a bit... Hollywoody, yes--a firmer, less sympathetic hand in the editing room would have kicked this up another point for me--but this is still a fantastic, (mostly) well-acted dual-character study married to a truly thrilling, visceral sports film. The amazing production values and unwillingness to tone things down to hit that magical PG-13 rating are just the icing on the cake.

Mud (2012): 9/10

The best coming-of-age film I've seen in a long time. Aspects of the premise (especially as the plot begins shifting into high-gear) would be hard to take at face-value in any other film, but the great acting chops and writing keep things somewhat grounded. And while the film does cheat a couple of times in order to get that nicely-wrapped up ending we all know we want, it hardly matters when the film gets everything else just about perfect. This is superb entertainment, complete with a beating heart. Writer/director Jeff Nichols continues to make a case for himself being one of our best writer/directors today... I'm really looking forward to whatever he does next.

Was easily one of my favorites not just of the last year, but of the last few years or more.
