Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk - 4/10

This is seriously one of the worst war movies i've ever seen.
After the movie was over I wasn't even sure what it was trying to say, or what the whole point to any of it was.
Maybe a war veteran could make more sense of it and relate to it more.
It also has some of the worst acting i've seen in a very long time.
I know that Ang Lee is a good director, but i'm not sure what happened here.

PS I watched this for free on Sony's Crackle on the Fire TV.
It kept displaying ONLY ads for toilet paper over and over.
At one point I was thinking maybe someone was trying to tell me something about this movie...

Iron Cowboy - 8/10

Netflix or Amazon Prime suggested this to me because I tend to watch and like a lot of movies about running, hiking, mountain climbing and world travel.
This one is about a guy who ran 50 Ironman marathons in 50 days in 50 states. Sounds like my next goal in life!

Generation Iron 2 - 7/10

This came up after I watched the previous movie and was listed as somehow being similar/related to the other movie?!
So it plays and I was going to turn it off in a couple of minutes. For some unknown reason I found it interesting enough to watch until the end.
As if you couldn't tell, it's a movie about extreme Bodybuilding (IMO). Not something i'm into, but I do like lifting weights and exercising.
It's really amazing to me how humans can get such huge muscles. I can barely recover in 3 days after heavy lifting at the gym. I must be doing something way wrong.

Honey Boy - 10/10

Yes, I was really surprised by this. Not an easy film to sit through and kind of sad.
I really wish I had seen this at the theater. I liked it more than many of the other Best Picture nominees I saw.
It's now free if you have Amazon Prime.

The Wolf of Wall Street - (7/10)

I can't believe Scorsese directed this movie. This one is unlike his other movies. His top two I would say is Goodfellas and Casino. I think the story was terrible, and unrealistic with just drugs drugs and drugs for no good reasons. Why Scorsese, why? It's a disappointment if you are a Scorsese fan.

A positive of the movie is, Margot Robbie was hot in it.

The Irishman - (8/10)

Too long, and drawn out. Not as great of a story as Scorsese's good gangster movies. Actors old now, and no amount of cgi will make them appear young. Their body is hunched and don't move like they used to.

I've seen Ninja Warrior in the past, but it seems so hard to watch American Ninja Warrior without paying for it.
It should be on some streaming service by now at least!

PS can you imagine training for 6 months or so, flying to another country to compete and falling on the first or second obstacle? Happens all the time here due to how difficult the courses are. I felt bad for a lot of the competitors and no second chance.

Not sure how hard it is compared to Ninja Warrior though.
Most of the winners seem to be professional mountain climbers. A few parkour athletes.

Anyway, I hope Netflix didn't cancel this show!
Ninja Warrior is entertaining.

Terrible movie. Why was this made, why Ang Lee?

I'd rate this movie much lower than Wolf of Wall Street: at least Wolf of Wall Street was entertaining, albeit a bit deep in the hyperbole---yet it was based on an actual memoir vs Irishman's conjecture. Wolf of Wall Street had timing throughout. Irishman was actors from a time past in a death knelll that shouldn't have been (just a boring total mess).

I can't agree with that. Irishman, although slow was technically superior in all categories, so couldn't rate it lower than an 8. Wolf of Wall Street was just a movie with no purpose at all.

Speaking of Oscars, I've heard that voters for the Oscars are old men from another generation. I heard they like movies about Holleywood. Tarantino is a sellout for the Oscars, and for this reason I'm glad Parasite won. At least Bong Joon Ho writes original stories, and I doubt that the film was an aim to get an Oscar.

Don't get me started about the Oscars....this year especially was a white wash. Bong Joon Ho has had good movies, but I didn't think this was a good return to Korean cinema. Given all the movies that were made, I was expecting more nominations....I really gasped at how many were geared toward Irishman: which I think is heavily overhyped. The movie itself is too long. It's based on a story that's total conjecture. The actors are OK, but they were better in Casino. I actually liked Once Upon a Time in Hollywood much better: funny you say you think it's because voters are old men: but it's based on the spaghetti western that the old school shunned.

Yeah, Irishman must have been hyped because non-critics generally didn't find it as good as the critics did. Didn't live up to expectations of Scorsese's previous mobster movies. I would agree that their performances weren't as good at in Goodfellas or Casino. Casino acting was superb. I think the cgi didn't help with their performance, and also they all are past the age when they perform their best (like in Goodfellas or Casino). Probably wasn't good enough to be the best picture contender.

I've heard De Niro recommended the story. The story definitely wasn't as strong as Scorsese's other ones. Bad editing?

Parasite, while an interesting movie, wouldn't be my vote for best picture. Everyone in my circle also thinks Irishman is 1 hour too long and overhyped for what it is. The actors are top notch, as usual....and while the CGI in it isn't as great as other movies, it's mainly the plot I have issues with. You have to suspend your disbelief about Robert De Niro getting his job, and that him and other actors should be that much younger.....never mind all the actual conjecture if you want to look up the history.

Nicholas Pileggi was obviously a huge influence in Scorsese movies. He wrote the screenplay for two of the Scorsese's best movies, Casino and Goodfellas. Somebody else wrote the Irishman. That must have been big part of the issue. I think Scorsese is good at directing actors, but needs good screenplay to make good movies (look at Wolf of Wall Street? lol). All these memorable strong scenes you see on Scorsese movie depends on a screenplay that comes on strong.

As for Parasite, I was surprised it has come that far, and won 4 Oscars. Personally, I didn't think it was that great, but it seems to be quite popular. Perhaps the subject matter hits the critics well. No idea. There's other Korean films I prefer over Parasite.

Ford v Ferrari - 6/10

Possibly the dullest movie i've seen in a year. I've seen legal dramas about windshield wipers that were more entertaining and interesting than this.
It's not that it's boring or too slow, just not much fun to sit through.
The CGI is also pretty bad and at times looks worse than a PS3 Gran Turismo game.
I really have no idea how a movie this average could be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

PS I actually watched this because I love the Gran Turismo video games series. In part two my favorite car was the Ford GT40 (main car in this movie!).
